| Feb-05-09 | | karoaper: hovik, I've already written a long passage that has nothing to do with chess, so I don't want to go into this here. But I just wanted to state two things. One that I'm very well aware of the importance of Armenia's strategic relationship with Iran, which is geopolitically advantageous to Iran, and plain necessary for Armenia. I didn't mention it in my last post, since people here are not Armenian and prob don't care about it. And the second point was that I didn't say (or mean to say) that people in Iran are fanatical and backwards. On the contrary, people there yearn for more freedom, and would embrace it, but because of the isolation and danger that Iran is in, the mullahs hold power over the people. Also, religious fanaticism does not mean that country's leaders don't know what's good for them geopolitically, same as secularism doesn't mean that a country cares about human rights. Ok, my appologies to CG kibitzers for two long unrelated to chess posts. I just LOVE politics and can't say no to talking about it. |

I bet Iranians wished they had somebody like Darjinian or Aronian or Petrosian or many more I don't want to brag about!, they should always remember and appreciate how much Irano-Armenians contributed to their Iranian sport achievements! |

Vic 'The Raging Bull' really was dominant throughout the fight and kicked heaviliy the poor Arce to retain his undisputed Super Flyweight Champion title. Hail the Champion! a little excrept from Wikipedia <Darchinyan became the first man in history to unify the titles in the [Super Flyweight] weight class. With the victory, Darchinyan matches Jeff Fenech's record as a 3 time world champion. Along with Kostya Tszyu's record as Undisputed World Champion. > |

And I've done a little research from your link, it interested me, who has the biggest ratio 'number of champions / population'. Seems like the undisputed favorite is Panama, with 4 champs, second is Armenia with 2, and 3rd is Puerto Rico again with 2. This was a quick review and maybe I missed smth. But won't argue, Mexicans were always very good at boxing and currently the biggest number of champions is a good proof. |

I dunno Whitey. At least Iran's leader didn't pretend to like George W. Bush! On the other hand, the Russkies never held American diplomats hostage, even under Stalin. Also, the Ayatollah issued fatwas, but Stalin actually had them carried out. (e.g. Trotsky) So, all in all, this is quite the conundrum! :) |
