Feb-05-09  karoaper: hovik, I've already written a long passage that has nothing to do with chess, so I don't want to go into this here. But I just wanted to state two things. One that I'm very well aware of the importance of Armenia's strategic relationship with Iran, which is geopolitically advantageous to Iran, and plain necessary for Armenia. I didn't mention it in my last post, since people here are not Armenian and prob don't care about it. And the second point was that I didn't say (or mean to say) that people in Iran are fanatical and backwards. On the contrary, people there yearn for more freedom, and would embrace it, but because of the isolation and danger that Iran is in, the mullahs hold power over the people. Also, religious fanaticism does not mean that country's leaders don't know what's good for them geopolitically, same as secularism doesn't mean that a country cares about human rights.

Ok, my appologies to CG kibitzers for two long unrelated to chess posts. I just LOVE politics and can't say no to talking about it.

brankat: <karoaper> I don't think there is a need for You to apologize.

Discussions about various topics, not directly related to Chess, do regularly take place on CG.com pages.

And they are not only tolerated, but also, for the most part, accepted by the "general population" of the site.

As long as the conversation is within reason, in terms of both, it's civility and duration. Indeed, that is one of the many appealing features of CG.com site.

Just keep on enjoying Your visits here.

In due time :-)

Or, would You prefer: In the foreseeable future :-)

Domdaniel: <brankat> At least the future is more foreseeable than the past.
Feb-06-09  karoaper: <brankat> Appreciate it :)

brankat: <Domdaniel> Could it be said that the Past is "hind-sight-seeable", or just simply "hind-seeable"? :-)

Geronimo: <brankat> Quite right about the importance of non-chessical dialogue on the site, just so long as it remains civil: "I may disagree with you, but I will defend with my life your right to disagree with me."

And re: hind-seeable: If hindsight is 20:20, then perhaps hindsightable?

Ahhh, English, ever flexibatable with its additionalments of suffixation and prefixationalism: I do for thee vocabulate.

Now, now. Let's not get carried away :-)

I admire Your linguistic mastery!

  brankat: The final score: 10 1/2 - 9 1/2 for GM Maghami.
Feb-08-09  hovik2003: I just found out boxing world champion Vic Darjinian won and deffended his title by knock out against Mexican flyweight J.Arse, Viva Vakhtang Darjinian!

I bet Iranians wished they had somebody like Darjinian or Aronian or Petrosian or many more I don't want to brag about!, they should always remember and appreciate how much Irano-Armenians contributed to their Iranian sport achievements!

Feb-08-09  Jim Bartle: "Mexican flyweight J.Arse"

Not a very auspicious name for a boxer. I suspect it's actually spelled "Arce," a common name in Spanish.

Feb-09-09  arsen387: <Jim Bartle> LOL! that guy's name was really Arce, but that is of little importance. Vic 'The Raging Bull' really was dominant throughout the fight and kicked heaviliy the poor Arce to retain his undisputed Super Flyweight Champion title. Hail the Champion!

a little excrept from Wikipedia <Darchinyan became the first man in history to unify the titles in the [Super Flyweight] weight class. With the victory, Darchinyan matches Jeff Fenech's record as a 3 time world champion. Along with Kostya Tszyu's record as Undisputed World Champion. >

Feb-09-09  NakoSonorense: Uhmmm, I don't like Armenians anymore.

I'm sure we're better than them at football...

Feb-09-09  arsen387: <Nako I'm sure we're better than them at football...> And not only you ;) But box is ours... and chess too :)
Feb-09-09  NakoSonorense: <arsen387> Chess is yours, that's for sure. But boxing? You are not even close there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...

Count the flags. And that's taking into account that we're on a "temporary" slump... =)

Feb-10-09  arsen387: ok, 2 champions for a nation whose population is a little more than 3 millions and which doesn't have a proffessional boxing association, is not bad. And I've done a little research from your link, it interested me, who has the biggest ratio 'number of champions / population'. Seems like the undisputed favorite is Panama, with 4 champs, second is Armenia with 2, and 3rd is Puerto Rico again with 2. This was a quick review and maybe I missed smth. But won't argue, Mexicans were always very good at boxing and currently the biggest number of champions is a good proof.
Feb-10-09  hovik2003: <Nako>
Como estas amigo, armenos mucho bien!
Feb-15-09  WhiteRook48: impressive... Karpov should have won 4-0, though, in my opinion
Mar-21-09  WhiteRook48: argh it was tied
Apr-01-09  Dredge Rivers: Russia vs. Iran

Who do you root against? :)

Apr-01-09  WhiteRook48: I root against Iran
Apr-01-09  Dredge Rivers: <WhiteRook48>

I dunno Whitey. At least Iran's leader didn't pretend to like George W. Bush!

On the other hand, the Russkies never held American diplomats hostage, even under Stalin.

Also, the Ayatollah issued fatwas, but Stalin actually had them carried out. (e.g. Trotsky)

So, all in all, this is quite the conundrum! :)
