Feb-25-09  Mulyahnto: <Pashikian-Bacrot after 58...Rd8: > Those black pawns are connected, which makes it easier for black to win. I think the white d pawn is a goner.
Feb-25-09  Mulyahnto: I think Bacrot's got this one in the bag...
Feb-25-09  Mulyahnto: So, Bacrot wins the tournament

sisyphus: IM Pavel Ponkratov lost his last-round game to Nepomniachtchi, missing a GM norm. IM Ray Robson lost his last three games, but still outperformed the ELO expectation; good experience.

sisyphus: In A2, GM Melikset Khatchiyan places second on tiebreak. Among the untitled Chinese juniors, Yu Yangyi and Lou Yiping, get IM norms; Ju Wenjun gets a WGM and an IM norm.

notyetagm: Anyone know if the TC <G-3'+2"> is a 2-second delay or a 2-second increment?

Thanks

Feb-26-09  laskersteinitz: FIDE uses increments; time-delay is an American invention.

Mar-01-09  laserlight: <laskersteinitz: FIDE uses increments; time-delay is an American invention.>

I had the impression that the time delay control was attributed to Bronstein.

Mar-01-09  WhiteRook48: Bacrot at the top!
Mar-02-09  laskersteinitz: <laserlight> Ah, you're right. I got confused. I thought Fischer had invented time delay and Bronstein increments, but it's the other way around!

Delay is used in the US, whereas increment is more common in Europe.

Mar-02-09  laskersteinitz: Now that the event is over, CG.com could update the piece of text on the left side of the home page.
