Mar-11-09  DCP23: <Octavia: how come the women's aint here?>

The women have their own separate European Championship, which is being held right now in St.Petersburg, Russia. Chessgames.com unfortunately did not make a page for that event.

Mar-11-09  ppeti84: I love to see the Evans-gambit in the Petrosian-Volokitin game:)

Octavia: <Chessgames.com unfortunately did not make a page for that event.> i suppose that's because they're supporting the world women's comp that is running at the same time.

sisyphus: <I love to see the Evans-gambit in the Petrosian-Volokitin game:)> Volokitin uses the 5...Bd6 response I adopted after running it through an engine.
Mar-11-09  DCP23: Ernesto Inarkiev proved too strong for the Kalmyk youngster Sjugirov.
Mar-11-09  Davolni: <Octavia: how come the women's aint here?>

WOMEN CAN'T PLAY CHESS!!!

did you forget that?

;)

Mar-11-09  DCP23: GM Inarkiev is now +5 -0 =1 after 6 rounds and has a perfomance rating of 2956.
Mar-11-09  DCP23: Inarkiev is now leading alone and gets to play Volokitin with Black in the next round.

There's a matchup on board 6 that could be of interest. GM Wojtaszek - GM Cheparinov. They are the seconds of Anand and Topalov, respectively.

waustad: What does it say about rating inflation that Jan Timman is so far down on the list sorted by highest achieved rating? He has been as high as #3 in the world according to Chessmetrics.

PhilFeeley: <Karpova: Volokitin-Inarkiev 1-0> The live site briefly said 1/2-1/2 and I couldn't figure out why. The next minute they changed it. LOL.

Karpova: Btw, Sjugirov won against Rodshtein
Mar-12-09  CantoQ: Sjugirov put up another full point today. And Volokitin finished his Game off nicely for another win. This tourney has been fun to follow thus far. I never heard of Sjugirov before this touney, but I think now I might not forget him for some time. His chess is fun to watch.
Mar-12-09  jon01: Damn it! Kurnosov lost today.

The R+P v B+N ending looks like the game I had published in the March 2009 Chess Life. Maybe the two pieces are better but it isn't easy to beat good defense.
