May-24-09  Andrijadj: SHAME on Chessbase for their coverage.Amount of negligence showed there is simply disgusting.

Richard Taylor: Ivanchuk is out of form Shirov is in form - Shirov people forget was and is still is one of the best players in the world.

Also he is an expert on the Svesnikov! (spelling for this?)

Carlsen is young he will play many more great games.

May-24-09  Comandente: Why is Chessbase so disgusted towards M-Tel? Is it only because of Danailov? Quite kildish, if so...

Yep. look out the final report "coverage":

http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...

May-24-09  Andrijadj: Very childish, and very stupid too.

Especially considering that they covered last Mtel and Bilbao properly.

May-24-09  euripides: Did Chessbase decide not to cover Mtel, or did Mtel indicate Chessbase weren't welcome ?
May-24-09  Andrijadj: Well,chessbase covered last Mtel,and Bilbao too,and lauded Topalov's performance in Bilbao,and they covered Topalov-Kamsky too.

So I guess it was chessbase's decision, since Bulgarians have no reason to hold grudge against them.

moronovich: There was (at least) one episode were the bulgarians didnīt allow playchess to bring the moves from Topalov-Kamsky.
May-24-09  Andrijadj: Really???I did not know, since I followed match on chessok.

But there were always articles about match on chessbase, with thoroughly annotated games...

virginmind: yeah, ive noticed that too, in all their reports from mtel they gave no pictures and not even mentioning the official site link at the end (which they have been doing for all big tournaments). maybe its a reaction to that mention which kept appearing on the mtel official site, prohibiting any other live broadcast of the moves as copyright infringement - like, ok, we will not copy anything from you, wont take any pictures and wont even mention your site. just a hunch...
May-24-09  timhortons: I did not expect GM Shirov to take the crown.

As for Magnus, winning a tourney is still elusive but the experience he's gaining playing against this heavyweights will make him a World Champ soon.

hedgeh0g: I can hardly bring myself to say it, but I fear Chucky has merged with van Wely to form Luck van Chucky!

:(

May-24-09  kc1968: Van Wely the punching bag is playing in Chicago Open now
May-24-09  supertimchan: I KNOW WHY CHESSBASE IS NOT REPORTING MTEL 2009

It got nothing to that with copyrights. Look at

http://www.mtelmasters09.com/en/int...

<
We have no problems with Chessbase in general, we have problems with one person there, who is trying to damage our reputation for years. What this person is doing is unforgiven.

Anyway, the copyrights have nothing to do with this. These guys want to use our products for free and then to sell them to their clients and to charge them. This should stop, and not only for Chessbase, also for everybody else who is using our products without permission. To organize a big event cost a lot of effort and money, so if somebody wants to use the results of this work he should sign a contract with the organizers and pay for the copyrights. This is the normal way in every professional sport like football, tennis, golf, basketball, etc. If chess wants to become real professional sport this is the only way to follow. >

Clearly, Silvio Danailov was talking about Chessbase's boss a man whose surname starts with "F". I forgot how to spell his German surname. Chessbase had been assisting Kramnik in his world championship against Topalov, and this really pissed Topalov and his manager. Apparently, the Chessbase boss didn't like what Danailov had said in the interviews so he decided not to use MTel for "free".

May-24-09  shintaro go: The Bilbao Grand Slam is having interesting participants: Karjakin, Grischuk, and now Shirov. Besides Topalov, the usual suspects are missing.

virginmind: <supertimchan> i see, it got nothing to do with the alleged copyrights infringement, except that it's all about that :)
May-25-09  SugarDom: It was unfortunate for Magnus to lose in the last round, but it was still a solid performance overall. The boy is impressive..

There are at least two major tournaments in which Carlsen has taken first place:

Biel Chess Festival (2007) (in a blitz playoff againsy Onischuk); and

Aerosvit (2008) (by a full point ahead of Ivanchuk);

as well as a share of first (with Wang and Gashimov) in Baku Grand Prix (2008).

acirce: Corus (2008) of course -- shared with Aronian, but ahead of Anand, Topalov, Kramnik, Radjabov, etc, etc...
May-26-09  champsylove: Congratulations Alexey! Nice to see some of the "fire" returning to the 64 square. Some beautiful games being played by Shirov. A richly deserved win.
May-29-09  Mate Hunter: Well deserved.
