HeMateMe: I hope our american PC makers, like Dell, HP, et al, band together and don't put in the software that blocks sites. It takes a unified effort, but they can ignore the communist request, and just sell those computers.
Jun-11-09   MaxxLange: <HeHateMe> I don't think that Chinese internet blocking is accomplished by software on PCs; it is done at the ISP level.

Knight13: They do all this blocking crap in China because that country is MESSED UP. Too many people doing too many unfair and illegal activities on the internet. And how do you suppose the government is supposed to block those people out of billions who use the internet?

EXACTLY.

Jun-12-09   Ladolcevita: <Methinks>
I'm Chinese, and I dont think our government is doing actually wrong to block some controversial and bad sites. We should not commix the unjustice and corruption of some part of the government with the goodwill of the administration of the internet. For instance, would you allow your adolescent child to watch the violent or porny sites?Absolutely not. I dont think freedom means you can do whatever you want, since there is a difference of pursueing the goodness and badness.
Jun-12-09   Ziggurat: <I dont think our government is doing actually wrong to block some controversial and bad sites> Right ... evil sites like Blogspot, Twitter and Youtube.
Jun-12-09   Ladolcevita: ==
Ziggurat!!~~~:_)Nice to meet you again!

You know, there are some controversial contents in blogspot and youtube...Government wont ban them for all the time,it is because we have been around the date of TiananmenSquare Event...so Youtube and Blogspot are banned recently... In the near future,I'm sure they would get back as before. IMO,the conduct of the government is still quite flexible and practical.

Knight13: <Ziggurat: <I dont think our government is doing actually wrong to block some controversial and bad sites> Right ... evil sites like Blogspot, Twitter and Youtube.> What, you expect them to be perfect in blocking controversial sites? Wait, I forgot, controversial means one-sided, not two-sided. Ohh I know now. You're right.
Jun-12-09   Ladolcevita: You know there are a large amount of cynics in China,if they are involved in such topics, they would really make noises everywhere, which I dont think I can bear><..... I would rather leave them in peace and "ignorance".... And I think its beneficial for the health and purity of their hearts and minds.

You tube content can pose a threat to a strong country like China?

Jun-12-09   chessmoron: <timhortons, Knight13, Ziggurat>

From what I can tell, China blocks organizations that affiliates with NED (National Endowment for Democracy), a CIA group that funds Democracy groups in countries that deemed as an enemy to the US.

Ron Paul explains this better than me:

http://www.antiwar.com/paul/paul79....

Here's a few dissident's organizations that has affiliations with NED:

Tibet: The CIA had had a long history of covert operation in Tibet. The Dalai Lama himself was on the CIA’s payroll from the late 1950s until 1974, reportedly receiving US$15,000 a month (US$180,000 a year).

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpa...

Major pro-Tibet lobby like International Campaign for Tibet, Tibet Fund, Tibet Information Network etc. are all funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), basically the civilian arm of the CIA:

http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?...

FALUN GONG:

Friends of Falun Gong. It is founded by former congressman Tom Lanto's wife, Annette Lantos, and Ambassador Mark Palmer, who is linked to National Endowment for Democracy:

http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocumen... (page 4, list of directors)

It appears over 6 million dollars have been funneled to Falun Gong via this group in 5 years:

http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocumen... http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocumen... http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocumen... http://www.guidestar.org/FinDocumen...

So what is all this millions for? Public opinion? Ideological war? Foreign policy implement? Your guess is as good as mine.

HUMAN RIGHTS IN CHINA:

http://www.globalresearch.ca/index....

Prominent Chinese dissident:

Hu Jia accepted about USD 180,000 from NED (the National Endowment of Democracy). this info. is available on NED website. http://www.ned.org/grants/06program...

Jun-12-09   visayanbraindoctor: <Zhijun> <Ladolcevita> and other Chinese kibitzers:

Isn't Chi Ching Hsuan/ Qi Jinguan/ Ching Hsuan Chi in CG.com data base the same Chinese GM?

Jun-13-09   Ladolcevita: <timhortons: <You know, there are some controversial contents in blogspot and youtube> You tube content can pose a threat to a strong country like China?>

I dont think the hot sun at noon would post a threat to a strong man like Mr.White, but he says that he would rather stay at the breezy tea house to have a cup of afternoon tea. Do you agree?

I dont have to go into the Disco Bar to let the noises distract my peace,if I dont like those avant-gard issues.

Jun-13-09   Ladolcevita: <visayan>
I'm sorry, but I havent heard about that guy, probably one elder man of the old generation. And the translation of the names also puzzles me.
Jun-13-09   visayanbraindoctor: <Ladolcevita> I believe he was the first Chinese GM, coming even before Ye Jiangchuan and Ye Rongguang. I am not sure though.
Jun-13-09   Ziggurat: <visayan> According to wikipedia, he is an IM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi_Jin...

Jun-13-09   unsound: And according to FIDE, also:
http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...
Jun-13-09   visayanbraindoctor: <Ziggurat, unsound> Thanks for the info. The names Chi Ching Hsuan/ Qi Jinguan/ Ching Hsuan Chi might then be referring to the same IM. (Again I am not sure.)

If so, it was probably Ye Rongguang who was the first Chinese GM.

Jun-13-09   alexapple: Chi Ching Hsuan/ Qi Jingxuan/ Ching Hsuan Chi refer to the same IM.

Qi Jingxuan is the right name.

Ye Rongguang is the first Chinese GM!

  Knight13: The hell he was.
Jun-16-09   kap54: "Ye Rongguang (Chinese: Ò¶ÈÙ¹â; born October 3, 1963 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang)[2] is a retired Chinese chess Grandmaster, who in 1990, became the first Chinese player to gain the GM title." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ye_Ron...

How do I get on that payroll? :-)

Jun-16-09   Zhijun: Hey£¬Guys.
Would you please go back to chess,I just misunderstood being to a political site.

Thanks a lot!!!

Jun-16-09   MaxxLange: <Zhijun>

yes and no

everyone needs to talk politics, even the chess players

as an American liberal, I have some severe criticisms of China's government, but I have other places on the Internet where I usually go to talk about that stuff.

Chess is something that can bring us together as nations! It is a human art form that we can all enjoy.

But guess what? I can do more amazing stuff than moving a bunch of plastic pieces on a checker board.

Bet you can't!

percyblakeney: I just read an article by Pia Cramling about playing in the Chinese League. Of the seven match games one was always rapid and it was decided by the team with four blacks which of the boards that was supposed to be rapid. The final round of every gathering starts as early as 8 (!) in the morning (Morozevich will probably never play in the Chinese League).
