Dr. Funkenstein: shouldn't this be held in Argentina?

Just kidding though, it's nice to a tournament recognizing Moishe (Miguel) and all that he accomplished in his long career

Jul-24-09  indianchessupdates: Sasikiran bad form continues he loses to the bottom ranked IM Nijat Azad Abasov AZE 2505 in the seventh round and is now on 3.5/7

Octavia: talking about names - was he called Neudorf once apon a time? What das naj mean in whatever language?
Jul-24-09  myschkin: . . .

As usual, no responsibility is taken for the correctness of the details provided:

a. http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/komple... shows two counties ... Mieczyslaw wasn't born in neither of them, but ...

b. the southern county in the west is bordered by "Walbrzych" - in which we find a town called <Nowe Siodlo> ~ <Neue Siedlung> ~ <Neudorf> ! in German.

c. e.g. on a postcard 1906 is written "Neudorf", see http://wroclaw.hydral.com.pl/206110...

d. <naj> to me derivates* from this <nowe>/ <neu> and seems to be the older Silesian (?) appellation ... right, I have no idea if <dorf> ~ <siodlo> ~ <village> has such an equivalent in Silesian, too.

e. <naj> has also other meanings in Yiddish: http://www.myetymology.com/yiddish/... which is another tough nut - <Nussdorf> ?!

f. honestly it is all just a wild guess, based on associations rather than knowledge [nobody would have noticed lol] :S

Question:
is it possible to write something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L_with... somehow? Several times I replaced with it with a simple l ... sorry for that.

* I doubt he was ever called <Neudorf> in particular

Jul-24-09  Everett: Wonder where Tomasz Markowski is...
Jul-24-09  myschkin: . . .

if I'm not mistaken he is in Dresden

Jul-25-09  wanabe2000: What an interesting tournament with 15 decisive games out of 35 played and with everyone having at least one win. I enjoyed this game B Socko vs Krasenkow, 2009.

sasi needs to work on his consistence and stability.

Jul-26-09  slomarko: in the last round all games were drawn. congratulations to Wojtaszek for winning the Najdorf Memorial 2009!
Jul-26-09  percyblakeney: Well done by Wojtaszek, slightly disappointing result by Sasikiran, and Nybäck sharing last was surprising but then he didn't face Carlsen here :-)
Jul-27-09  gus inn: <myschkin> in Germany there is a town called Quickborn.

Says something about the conditions after WW2 , doesn´t it !?

  whiteshark: LOL, <gus inn>

<Quickborn> is a small town (20k inhabs.) situated some 20 km north of Hamburg. It's foundation is dated back to 1323. :D

Jul-27-09  gus inn: <whiteshark< OK man , I stand corrected - OR I meant the famous war between Willhemshafen und Hamburg situated 132o-1322.And then came the americans.. Or the english - dont recall for the moment :)
