Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-29-09  AlexNevski: Loek Van Wely is conspicuously absent from this tournament. I wonder why he's not in it?
Jul-29-09  Gryz: It's the Open. Not the regular Dutch championships.

There have always been a lot of Dutch GMs who skipped this tournament. Although not the same ones every year. I think they all have participated in Dieren, but not all of them every year. Even Timman is playing here this year. Which he hasn't done in a long time, I think.

Jul-30-09  nescio: In today's last (9th) round Timman (6.5) didn't try against the leader L'Ami (7) to take the lead himself. A draw right after the opening. May be satisfied with his performance (he played some nice instructive games).

Gives Roi Miedema (6.5) a chance to catch up, which would be a major accomplishment for him.

Jul-30-09  WhiteRook48: a bit too much draws, please
Jul-31-09  Gryz: Last round: L'Ami - Timman was a draw.

End result:
1) L'Ami - 7.5
2) Giri, Timman, Miedema - 7
6) Brandenburg, Ernst, Ootes - 6.5

L'Ami and Giri both earned a spot for the closed Dutch championships in September.

Aug-04-09  Dredge Rivers: The Dutch Open gets a page, but the US Open doesn't?! More anti-Americanism, I presume.
Aug-05-09  Jason Frost: <Dredge Rivers> U.S. open really isn't that strong of a tournament(it isn't any stronger than World Open, Chicago Open, National Open, Foxwoods, NAO, etc.)

Not sure that the Dutch open is that much stronger than the US Open. But just because a tourney page is put up for a tournament outside the U.S. while a US tournament is going on, doesn't make the action anti-Americanism.

Why would you want to jump to this sort of conclusion? I've been here since 2005, and have always found the management of this site to do its utmost to be thoroughly professional and supportive of its members. The only thing management is anti is embodied in the four posting guidelines.

Aug-05-09  Troller: <Dredge> If you find that a tournament is missing, then contact cg.com. I suppose someone has done so in this case, which is why Dutch Open has a page. Politiken Cup only got a page when I sent an email with the link to the tournament and the pgn download.
Aug-06-09  JonathanJ: erwin l'ami won a half point ahead of timman. they played each other in the last round and it was draw after ten moves? where is timman's fighting spirit?
Aug-06-09  Dredge Rivers: <Jason Frost> <twinlark> <Troller>

Ya know, denial ain't just a river in Egypt! I've been on this site since late '07 and I've always found it a bit Eurocentric.

There is only one, and I repeat, ONE person in this tournament that I've ever heard of; Jan Timman. The US Open has two that I can think of right off the top of my head; Hikaru Nakamura and Alexandra Kosteniuk. So, I repeat, why doesn't the US Open have a page when the Dutch Open does?

I await your response.

Aug-06-09  Dredge Rivers: <twinlark> I have. The US Open runs until August 9. I hope it will have a page by then.
