Aug-21-09  Atking: I don't understand 71.QxRe6+ fxQe6 72.Kxh6 e5 73.g5 one move leads and + for Qg1
Aug-21-09  Atking: The other line was 70...Kf8 71.QxRg6 fxQg6 72.Kxg6 h5 73.Kxh5 Kg7 74.Kg5 wins
Aug-21-09  hand banana: <71.QxRe6+ fxQe6 72.Kxh6 e5?? 73.g5 >

e5 loses. Kf7 instead is a draw

Aug-21-09  DCP23: Van Wely holds, good for him.
Aug-21-09  bharatiy: its a draw, did <slomarko> and <hand banana> actually exchange cash or it was just chessbucks.
Aug-21-09  DCP23: Yifan misplayed a rook ending and is now lost (@move 75).
Aug-21-09  hand banana: i expect a cash payment of 5$ from slomarko
Aug-21-09  juandie1: Great Job Ljubo!!!!!!!!!!
Aug-21-09  DCP23: And the Experience team lead continues to grow ;)

achieve: Yes - a very good showing by the "oldies," with van Wely pulling off a great save and Ljubo showing he still has it. I'd say the rising stars are in for a struggle to win this, though they are mostly motivated to get the Amber ticket, as Caruana said last year already.

Ljubo's calculation and energy are a joy to see again. He seems to play like in his best years; turned back the clock.

I do hope Yifan will manage to get "on the board" real soon.

HeMateMe: What happened with the beers and the girls? Just wondering...
Aug-21-09  kdog83: Where is the missing game?
Aug-21-09  sneaky pete: <hand banana> That will be Martian dollars though. They have no practical value here, but you may sell them to a collector for good money.

Try use the "missing link"...

Aug-21-09  dumbgai: <slomarko: if VW manages to draw this one then i'll emigrate to Mars.>

Is that a promise?

Aug-21-09  Red October: < hand banana: i expect a cash payment of 5$ from slomarko > whats the Zloty trading at ?
Aug-21-09  redwhitechess: nice win by Ljubo. bad, this year I bet on wrong team.
Aug-21-09  Anzer: What does Amber have to do with this tournament?
Aug-21-09  chessmoron: <Anzer> Top 2 players will be included in the Amber tournament next year.
Aug-21-09  Ladolcevita: <hou>
I think she is just too exhausted...she recently participated in too many tournaments,right?...at least she could draw against yesterday's old man

SetNoEscapeOn: This is a much better tournament than what we had before, which was "extremely strong youth" vs "way over the hill legends".

HeMateMe: I'd like to see a stronger +50 team take on the kiddies. I would have Karpov, Lev Alburt, Y. Seriwan, A. yermalinsky (the Yerminator!) and Joel Benjamin.

my boys might be losing their hair, but they wouldn't lose too many games.

Aug-22-09  Ladolcevita: Hope Yifan would not lose again...VanWelly...ya
