Octavia: Eltaj forced a draw, cause Short was a tad too laid back.

jamesmaskell: Im guessing Ilyumzhinov's invitation to the World Cup is gone then...
Sep-04-09  Udit Narayan: Tkachiev is one of the original <bad boys> of chess:

I won't say I'm surprised to hear this news.

Sep-04-09  percyblakeney: Mamedyarov lost against Le Quang Liem (2602) in the fourth round.

  parmetd: thanks chessgames!
Sep-04-09  mandy64: I would like to see a photo about Tkachiev sleeping on the chessboard, but I failed to find. Can anybody help me? :-D

PhilFeeley: The reports on this tournament on the home website are absolutely abysmal. They'd be better off not doing it. The "live" games on Monroi aren't very live either...
Sep-04-09  apple pi: Does anyone have computer analysis after white's 37th in this game: Le Quang Liem vs Mamedyarov, 2009? It's white's knight against black's two connected passed pawns. At first look I thought black had at least a draw, given that all five of his pawns were connected, but white went on to win.
Sep-04-09  hchrist: 1. d4 e6 2. Nf3??? Le Quang Liem obviously cheated.
Sep-04-09  jon01: Tkachiev had a huge party after getting the invitation to the World Cup.
Sep-04-09  DiscoJew: Where the hell is this drunken Tkachiev game? I know all to well what he was going through and played many games totally bombed on booze and weed. Sometime I could do it, sometimes I passed out. The games are often humorous to review though! We gotta find this game CHESSGAMES!
Anyone else have drunk games they care to show? We could probably include many of hundreds of Tal's games :)

come on, we're all humans...besides, it makes chess more popular ;)

on a more serious note: he should have abstained to come to the playing hall in that state - or at least his second (if he has one) should have told him so.

Octavia: <The "live" games on Monroi aren't very live either> They seem to put their own moves in sometimes, but always correct them quickly. I'm very pleased with the Alekhineclub.

How is that different than any other Super GM game? GMs like Leko and Kramnik have been doing this for years. Lots of play on the board, but they'd rather draw games then draw blood.

If you play out the final position, you will see that white has all the winning chances. Black will have to play very well to hold. I think Chanda was wrong to accept the draw offer.

Sep-09-09  nhat8121: where can I find the current standing of this tourney?
Sep-09-09  slomarko: http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/twi...
Sep-09-09  Thuellin: It's looking really good for Le Quang Liem going into the last round. He probably only needs a draw to win the tournament and he has white against a significantly lower-rated opponent. The only player half a point behind him has the black pieces against top-seeded Mamedyarov.
Sep-10-09  siamesedream: Nice Short's win...
