Sep-28-09   KamikazeAttack: cheers
Sep-28-09   minasina: you're welcome... and cheers!
Sep-28-09   14DogKnight: <eightsquare: Good win for Carlsen. Obviously Leko was surprised and not well prepared for the Scotch game. Tournament would be much more interesting with this line up === 1. Carlsen. 2. Anand.
3. Arorian.
4. Topalov.
5. Ivanchuk.
6. Radjabov.>

Replacing Radjabov with Kramnik is even better

Sep-28-09   Ezzy: Well this is a very interesting round.

Topalov has an aweful record against Carlsen

Wang Yue has an aweful record against Jakovenko

Radjabov has nightmare of a record against Leko. 0-6

So the stats say that it's 3 white wins

Off to the chessbookie I go :-)

reyjf: What will Carlsen play against Topolov?
Sep-28-09   Blunderdome: Wait, what are time controls here?
Sep-28-09   Thuellin: I think it's the usual 2 hours for the first 40 moves then 1 extra hour control. The official site had 90 minutes total with 30 second increments, which was wrong.
Sep-29-09   Thuellin: Make that 90 minutes for the first 40 moves then 1 hour.
Sep-29-09   ontocaustic: carlsen will win this it is my predication
Sep-29-09   Xenon Oxide: I don't get time controls like these. Not only do they mess up a chess player's accustomed rhythm, but the difference between 5 hours and 7 hours is hardly going to make chess any more exciting for spectators. It's an awkward middle solution with nothing for both chess purists and casual audiences.

virginmind: the confirmation: "The Nanjing games are homework by Garry Kasparov and me," said Magnus Carlsen at the press conference. "Today's game was provided by Garry." http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... (caption of last picture)
Sep-29-09   ritual.sacrifice: "Xenon Oxide: I don't get time controls like these" i think a professional chess player should be ready for any time controls; i can only attest from personal experience that a difference from 7 to 5 hours has definitely made a difference in my enjoyment of the tournament (its still early days tho)
Sep-29-09   Thuellin: Games start in about 10 minutes! As <Ezzy> noted, we have a couple very historically-imbalanced match-ups today. However, Topalov's classical record against Carlsen isn't all that bad (3 to 4.) Unfortunately, Wang Yue and Radjabov may just play it safe and we'll get some quick draws. Or will they get their first wins ever against their opponents?! I'll try to be optimistic.
Sep-29-09   Valmy: Time control is 90 mins for the whole game with a 30 sec increment starting from move 1 (like DONOSTIA tournament).

http://www.chess-pearlspring.com/ww...

Sep-29-09   siamesedream: No - time control is:

90 minutes for 40 moves and 60 minutes to the end - witn NO increments...

Sep-29-09   Thuellin: Leko - Radjabov is a Sicilian Dragon, an opening which Radjabov has a pretty bad record in. Combine this with his bad record against Leko and... he might be going down in flames.

percyblakeney: Leko and Radjabov are repeating Leko vs Radjabov, 2008
Sep-29-09   Troller: The technical guys are playing Petroff. Let the booing begin... :)
