Sep-21-09  Ezzy: COME ON NIGEL!! It's starting to look good.
Sep-21-09  siamesedream: 3-fold?
Sep-21-09  percyblakeney: Short won't go for the draw here...

Nigel's probably trying to assess 41...Rf4 42 Qc2 Rxf3! whichseems good according to the computer

Sep-21-09  siamesedream: <Short won't go for the draw here...> Yep... 42. ...Kg8.
Sep-21-09  Ezzy: 42...Kg8 (what!) I'm astounded he didn't play 42...Rxc3 or at least 42...g5.
Sep-21-09  Ezzy: Seems Nigel is just trying to keep it tidy without any heroics.
Sep-21-09  percyblakeney: Short has been playing well today.
Sep-21-09  Ezzy: Yes 44...Qe4 I think he's got him now. If he keeps it together it's a fantastic performance.
Sep-21-09  Ezzy: It's interesting that when <squares> asked the purpose of 24...b3 and Nigel told him it was to play 25...Rb4, and 20 moves later, there is the rook still sitting pretty on b4 :-)
Sep-21-09  jurado96: OVER 0-1
Sep-21-09  Ezzy: That's the way to hit back. Brilliant play by Nigel Short!!

  whiteshark: Wow, Short boomeranged.

Sep-21-09  ROADDOG: 52....Rxd2! Nice shot Mr. Short.
Sep-21-09  JamTin: yeah nice game today. 52 Re2?? must only have been a time trouble blunder from Efimenko but Short looks winning to me anyway.
Sep-21-09  vonKrolock: The only only move reasonable alternative to <52.Re2> was ... resignation
Sep-21-09  apple pi: Both games wins with the black pieces...
Sep-21-09  JamTin: <vonKrolock> true. when I described 52 Re2 as a blunder I'd just seen that it lost immediately and hadn't appreciated just how helpless white was by then anyway.
Sep-21-09  Heidi44: 52. Re2?? stinks! However, the position is lost anyways. Someone of Short's caliber would play it out in their sleep!
Sep-22-09  DiscoJew: Nigel Nigel Nigel!
Sep-22-09  kurtrichards: Close-Open match?
Sep-22-09  siamesedream: Time for draw...

1. = (0.05): 16.Qd3 Nb6 17.Nd2 Na4 18.Qc2 Nc5 19.g3 g6 20.Nb3 Ne6 21.Rd5 2. = (0.04): 16.g3 Nb6 17.Qd3 Rad8 18.Qc2 g6 19.Na5 Nd7 20.b4 Rc8 21.B

i hope GM short could swindle a win.

Sep-22-09  Atking: On move 18. White looks good enough. d6 is weaker than e4. One plan could be Rfe1-Nf1-Ne3.
