Sep-29-09  minasina: Final standings:

1-3 Andreikin, Kuzubov, Mamedov 5.5
4-6 So, Akobian, Hammer 4.5

Andreikin, Mamedov and Kuzubov will play a double round robin blitz playoff for the SPICE Cup.

Sep-29-09  percyblakeney: I'd bet on Mamedov in blitz.
Sep-29-09  minasina: Game 1: Kuzubov 1-0 Mamedov
Game 2: Mamedov 1-0 Kuzubov

Game 3: Andreikin 1/2 Mamedov
Game 4: Mamedov - Andreikin

Sep-29-09  despantes: i'll go for andreikin
Sep-29-09  minasina: ...Why Mamedov is forced to play all his blitz games first?
Sep-29-09  minasina: Game 4: Mamedov 0-1 Andreikin
Sep-29-09  percyblakeney: OK, Mamedov's chances are gone and it's between Andreikin and Kuzubov.
Sep-29-09  minasina: ...so, Andreikin needs to draw two final blitz games against Kuzubov to win the title.
Sep-29-09  minasina: 5th game draw. 6ht game Kuzubov - Andreikin. What happens if Kuzubov win?
Sep-29-09  minasina: Kuzubov won the 6th game. Are there going to be more blitz games between Kuzubov and Andreikin? Or is there another tiebreaker?
Sep-29-09  ROADDOG: Kuzubov is the Champion.

Sep-29-09  minasina: OK, Kuzubov won the tournament. Mamedov got 1.5 blitz points, Kuzubov and Andreikin both 2.5, but Kuzubov won their mutual encounter.
Sep-30-09  Violence: Quite a boring tournament.
Sep-30-09  despantes: yep, lots of draws and lots of short draws
Sep-30-09  minasina: Round 10 draws: Kuzubov - Akobian 12 moves and So - Andreikin 18 moves. Hammer 0-1 Mamedov 41 moves.
Sep-30-09  minasina: Draws, less than 30 moves:

Mamedov 8 games
Andreikin 8
Kuzubov 7
Hammer 4
So 4
Akobian 3

It seems that playing short draws was a good plan: Kuzubov, Andreikin, and Mamedov tied for first.

Oct-01-09  DCP23: <percyblakeney: I'd bet on Mamedov in blitz.>

I personally have no doubt that in blitz strength, Andreikin > Mamedov > Kuzubov.

And yet, Kuzubov somehow won the tie-break. Well, stranger things happen sometimes ;)

Oct-01-09  cade: During this whole tournament there was only 1 decisive game not involving Hammer. Pretty shocking stuff from the other players, who would watch a tourney like this?
Oct-02-09  minasina: ...could have been disastrous, if they hadn't invited Hammer.
Oct-02-09  adair10: One got an impression that all the 2600+ rated youngsters were too concerned about losing rating points, while Hammer was just enjoying playing...
Oct-02-09  zanshin: <minasina: ...could have been disastrous, if they hadn't invited Hammer.>

I agree. And he was the only one rated <2600. Maybe next time, draws should get zero points.

Oct-02-09  GalileoPiccolino: Too many draws lessened the hype of what it was expected of, well, so much so for such Tournament, next year's event the Sofia rules should be implemented; European Soccer system of 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and zero for a loss is recommended.
Oct-10-09  blazerdoodle: Exactly ! Cramer rules.
