Karpov played the openings according to his style not the most ambitious as you notedRemember he is a big Caro-Kan advocate ... Nuff said |

| percyblakeney: <It's just hard to believe he will fair well today after his clock management was not nearly up to par in quick chess> Yes, I am still surprised about him losing like that, he really should be able to play slightly faster. OK, he would lose on the board instead but at least the games would look much more complete than now. I wonder if the prospective sponsors for all their planned matches have become more interested after this, a Kasparov-Anand match would be considerably more exciting. |

| yalie: <capabal> All Time rankings are always a bit subjective. So it is "beauty in the eyes of the beholder" I guess. This was the one non-subjective fact you posted. <In addition to that, computer analyses of his play, when not massaged by arbitrary adjustments, confirm that this is one of the best players of all time. http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...; while this is true, rather than a true reflection of player strength, I submit that these statistics are more a reflection of the lines played by these players. It is well known that Karpov and Kramnik dont play speculative sacrificial aggressive lines to outplay opponents. There will always be a high correlation with the computer in these lines. |

| DEEPERGRAY: Kasparov has not been training for competition and is getting older .Kasparov has nothing to gain playing Anand he already beat him. Playing Topalov (revenge his last lost) or Morezvich in a "fun match" would be exciting - considering their dynamic approach to positions
But not a speed match
Maybe 45 min with a 5 second increment or 25 min 5 second -10-12 games of this and maybe 4 semi-blitz 10 min games for sport and spectacle
What do you think? |

 |
| percyblakeney: My guess is that Kasparov could match anyone in blitz but that it would be tougher the longer the time controls are. Most top GMs prepare many hours every day and Kasparov hasn't done that for several years. He did well to score a better result against Karpov in rapid than players like Nakamura, Radjabov, Svidler and Topalov have done this year, but with longer time controls lots of hard work would be demanded and I doubt that Kasparov is interested in playing more serious chess than this. |

| DEEPERGRAY: <percyblakeney> Your point is well taken On a side note a dream scenerio for Kasparov (Maybe vicariously for myself) Beating first Topalov then Kramnik in a match , winning Linares again in the same year , and the inconceivable playing Rybka 3.0 on a normal PC in a one game match NO handicap and winning with white pieces (trying to keep it semi realistic) or drawing in a three game match (of course with a victory in their) Then retiring Wouldn't that be sweet!!! |

| DEEPERGRAY: <Xenon Oxide> Lol .. The difference is mine could happen .Well after a year of study and training by GK Topalov makes mistakes or takes unnecessary risks occassionally Kraminik can lose a match (aka Anand match) and even Rybka 3.O can lose a game - I am around 1800 (currently 2226 on chess.com) and I beat Rybka 2.3 in a closed sicilian that the computer misevalued a locked in bishop. (I took 10 hours to make my moves and it only had 5 min on a slow pc - no opening book and the starting position was a main line of grand prix attack - in a pet line of mine but none of that's important -lol) Linares good play and little luck he could squeak out a voictory All Kasparov has to do is find a great TN to refute a hole in its opening repritoire - He has done it before (basically get a winning postion before the match starts and hold on for dear life) In the three game match with regards to the other two games play drawish openings aka berlin defense, Rossolimo variation in sicilian for white pieces ,or maybe even the Petroff defense and get a draw with one of the two? <Xenon Oxide>
What exactly seems impossible for Kasparov in the above? |

| mahmoudkubba: I coudn't manage to find the real reason(s) for the meeting, also not knowing why it was decided 12 games. In fact didn't know yet the theme, why, where, when, the rest of the 6 famous questions. If any body can help me fixed that problem, especially why. |

| mahmoudkubba: I can imagine anything in fact, one matter is my thought(s) for such and such reason(s), money is not one of them really or nearly. |

| kingfu: It has been asked how Capablanca is +3 with Alekhine. You bring up Capablanca in this database. Then you click on any Alekhine-Capablanca game. Chessgames says there are 49 more games between these two great players. Click on that link. Then the database says Capablnca won 10 games , Alekhine won 7 with 33 draws. Even with the new Democratic math that is +3. QED. |
