Oct-14-09  Jason Frost: <Dionyseus> Completely agree

But, anyway, back to the tournament, Anna now has a ridiculous 8.5/9 with a round to go!!!

Oct-14-09  DiscoJew: go Anna

HeMateMe: Baginskaite lives in South Dakota, not a hotbead of chess (but I bet you can find an affordable apartment!). How do you train, living in S.D.? Do everything through the internet, maybe have webcam to work with a stronger player? She was close to Ana Z for a little while, but Anna was on a mission.
Oct-14-09  redwhitechess: Anna success can be related to her opportunity to play in Europe more than other girls.
Oct-14-09  zoren: On the SC comments, I think the strategies sometimes need to be implemented with immaculate micro, or it wont work, but they aren't necessarily exclusive from each other. Timing, macro, and micro, are all necessary components of a successful strategy.

This is why I prefer chess, since it is turned base, and the execution of a correct strategy wont get goofed up.

Oct-14-09  ROADDOG: <Jason Frost:> But, anyway, back to the tournament, <Anna now has a ridiculous 8.5/9 with a round to go!!!>

Hello Jason Frost. Fortunately for the other women, Round nine was the last round. Anna dominated the tournament.

Oct-14-09  Jason Frost: <ROADDOG> That's disappointing. But still ridiculously good and probably the best performance ever in the U.S. Women's Championship, better than Krush's 8.5/9 against a weaker field.
Oct-14-09  DiscoJew: Congrats Anna!
Does anyone know Anna Z's performance rating for this fantastic showing?

parmetd: It was exactly 2800 at 7.5/8 but in the last round she beat a 1900 so its probably still around 2800.
Oct-14-09  Sydro: 2785 performance rating.
Oct-14-09  drknightley: I realize Zatonskih wasn't able to participate in most of the "Open" US Chess Championship earlier, but I think it can be fair to say that she is one for two when competing in US Chess Championships this year. :)
Oct-14-09  turbo231: Yes she had gallstones, she had to fly back to germany to have her gallbladder removed. Been there done that.
Oct-14-09  whatthefat: I calculated a 2765 FIDE performance.

parmetd: You guys suck at math since the performance rating is 2817
Oct-14-09  AnalyzeThis: Whatever it is, it's inflated. Nevertheless, it was an excellent performance.

parmetd: True but consider that only one of these other females was within 150 pts of her rating.

HeMateMe: I don't know if its here or in
Europe, but wasn't there a tournament where the winner of the women's section was given a spot in the men's draw the following year?

parmetd: yes sadly they do that here... its pathetic cause it gives a spot to an unqualified contender.
Oct-14-09  whatthefat: <parmetd: You guys suck at math since the performance rating is 2817>

Right, and how did you calculate that? Which algorithm did you use?

Oct-14-09  hellopolgar: <whatthefat>

the algorithm is called addition...

Caissanist: The performance rating appears to have been calculated using the current USCF algorithm, which is different from FIDE's.

Oct-15-09  whatthefat: <hellopolgar>

Brilliant. And how did you calculate the +325?

Not to mention the fact that you're referring to a USCF rating performance, whereas I calculated the FIDE performance.

Oct-16-09  A Karpov Fan: if only i had been Yun fan first -lol-
Oct-16-09  eternaloptimist: Well, Zatonskih definitely proved she is the strongest women's player in the U.S. this year. Last year it was debatable because blitz games decided who won it. I think that Krush did every bit as good as her last year. It was too bad that she had to have such a tough "loss" in that last blitz game. There was a very controversial ending to it. They should have either had both of them tie for first or had longer time controls in all of the tiebreaker games. I'm sure that she wanted to really prove that she is the strongest women's player in the U.S. this year & that she definitely did. She won almost every game! U would have to go way back to find someone who had a better perf. rating than she did this year.
