Eyal: Nice final combination by Anand:

click for larger view

24.Bg6!! Rg8 25.Bxh7! Kxh7 26.Qh4+ Kg6 27.Rd3 Qh5 28.Rg3+ 1-0 (28...Kh6 29.Qf4+ Kh7 and now either 30.Rh3 or 30.Qxb8).

24...Qf6 might have led to an even prettier finish: 25.Qe2! Qe7 26.Qh5 h6 27.Qh4! Rxf1+ (27...Qd6 28.Rxf8+ Qxf8 29.Rd8) 28.Rxf1 Qd6 29.Qg3! e5 30.Qd3! Qe7 31.Rf7 and the black queen can't keep defending f8.

Wouldn't *you* be intimidated playing Shirov?

:-)>

Scared to death ubfortunately , yes ! :P

Feb-28-10  anandrulez: Very petite combination from Anand , it looked so easy to outplay a 2600 player for Vishy . Anand would have seen bg6 when he made the pawn push , thats why he played nxc5 and all ...Beauty man .

And someone asked why I thought Anand was favored over Topalov.

whiteshark: Anand said that <21...Nxe5> was a mistake and that his position is forced win after it. <21...Bxd4> was necessary though his position is clearly better, but not a win.

Where did you find Anand commenting on this game?

Thanks

No, Shirov never had a lost game - he held the initiative since Baramidza played 20...f5 (missing the stronger ...Nf4! first). Black could have held, but he made two serious mistakes - first 31...Kf7? (after g6 he should be solid enough), perhaps missing that after 32.Bxh7 the knight on e6 is not really under threat (32...Qxe6?? 33.Bg8+), and then 33...Qe5? (after 33...Be7 34.Ng5+ Kf8 the black king seems reasonably safe).

tamar: <notyetagm> Look for "Live Ticker" and scroll down at http://liveticker.schachbundesliga....

It is in German, but the gist is given in <whiteshark>'s post.

He said 21...Nxe5 was a mistake "even if I did not see 24 Bg6 immediately" because it gave him a forced win.

whiteshark: <notyetagm: A big final weekend coming up, with 3(!) teams tied for first place.> Yes, teams are Baden-Baden, Solingen and Bremen with 4 rounds to go. That's 2 weekends, March 20+21, 2010 and April 10+11.

The match Bremen vs Solingen will be played on April 10, 2010. If they drew Baden-Baden will be Team Champion [given that they (as well as Bremen and Solingen) will win their remaining matches], otherwise there will be a playoff between Baden-Baden and the winning team (Solingen or Bremen).

whiteshark: chessbase.com reports about the Baden-Baden vs Bremen match last weekend http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp...

There are also more audio-tapes with comments http://www.schachbundesliga.de/medi... (only M. Roiz in English).

I'm a bit unmotivated to translate the rest (at least not before ceegee would have uploaded the games...).

whiteshark: Bacrot is down to 1m 15s at move 25 against Giri (1h 11m). That's sick, I mean, really sick.

Tabanus: Hi <whiteshark>, my beloved chess-results does not tell in this case who had white or black. Round 12:

whiteshark: <Tab> A bit tricky. Two teams form a 'travelling unit' for a season. And in your round 12 list the 1st board of the second position (outward) teams (Eppingen, Trier etc) had always <White> (Tiviakov, Lupulescu etc).

So the hosting team pool will get White pieces on board 1 tomorrow, me thinks.

  Tabanus: Hmm,

they should be anaspeptic, frasmotic, even compunctuous to cause us such pericombobulation.

  whiteshark: How what? :D

As the case now stands Bremen is dropped out in the championship. They lost a point in their yesterdays 4-4 vs Mülheim.

Round 13 is underway...
