alexmagnus: Another thing MC qualified to was the Candidate Match vs Aronian (through the World Cup 2005, to which, in return, he had to qualify too).
Dec-03-09  returnoftheking: I guess so, I didn't follow the discussion and don't know what it was about; just noted an inaccuracy;)

alexmagnus: < But it was definitely a special privilege, since Motylev was first.>

IIRC one of the reasons was the fact that Carlsen played his game vs Motylev in the 11th round while being seriously sick. Since even after that loss Carlsen was on shared first, I don't see too much of a privilge being given. Short, on the other hand, finished clear second.

Dec-03-09  Riverbeast: <You like pain, river?>

Love it, kid!

Believe me, I've got some funky openings of my own that would take them out of their comfort zones...For a few moves at least, before I got crushed

I don't know whether or not he was sick- I didn't hear that before ( at least not at that occasion)and can't recall he looked ill, but at any rate I don't see why it matters on deciding first place (= qualification).

He didn't meet the official requirements, and that makes it, regardless of our opinions, a privilege. Considering alleged sickness as an excuse to be promoted without qualifying would lead to strange situations, you have to agree with that. <Riverbeast> lol.

If it weren't for the increments I would believe in you.

Dec-03-09  Knight13: What's with you people criticizing historical figures who went to top colleges and/or is successful?
Dec-03-09  Knight13: <Riverbeast: <knight13> So now can you explain what your public vs private school analogy has to do with Nakamura vs the elites?>

Nothing. I side-swiped from that stuff the minute I began talking this stuff.

<Listen, knight, I went to college, I did fine, I learned a few things, I've used them in my career, and I've done well. I'm not really interested in college admissions at the moment, except when I see mistaken comments posted about it.>

Yes, you are very successful to the point that you come on how to provoke me. And you were definitely successful at that.

If you did all that crap then what's your problem coming on here pretending you didn't know much? To provoke me. Exactly.

Very sucessful at that indeed.

Dec-03-09  Riverbeast: <knight13> I wasn't criticizing JFK Jr

I was just using him as an example that the private school kids sometimes don't have to work as hard or achieve as much, BECAUSE they have cash and connections.

Not that I blame him...If my parents were wealthy and connected, I would most likely be tempted to take advantage of it also

Exactly.

People get jealous. That's why people like him and George W. Bush get down-the-drain nicknames.

And when those jealous and stuck-up bastards get a chance to use legacy status to get into Princeton University, they hop around like little bunnies. They would do the same for their children.

But, too bad, they don't have the ability to do that, so they throw rotten tomatoes at others to make themselves feel better. HAHA! Jealousy!

Dec-03-09  Jim Bartle: Speaking of JFK Jr., and the Kennedys getting into elite universities without difficulty: I'm sure they did and continue to do so.

On the other hand, it would be interesting to look at what the Kennedy children and grandchildren have chosen to do as adults. I think you'll find a lot of people in public service and few (maybe only Maria Shriver) having gone on to high-paying careers.

HeMateMe: The book "Growing up Kennedy" might address this. One of these kids, I think one of Bobby Kennedy's 20 kids, was going up to Harlem regularly to buy heroin or coke, and he o'd, he died. apart from that, they seem pretty well adusted. The money is not all that great--The trust fund established by the bootlegger-diplomat Jack Kennedy Sr. has been diluted by so many grandchildresn.

The Boston Brood will have to find their own way...

Dec-04-09  Riverbeast: <knight13> Now you're accusing me of being jealous?

Maybe you're just an elitist little wanker who thinks the rich are "better" and "harder working" (maybe even genetically superior?) than those who are not. That's definitely the impression I'm getting

You accuse me of 'beating people down with words', but frankly it's your tone that I find confrontational and annoying.

Keep it up, and you'll get a verbal beat-down you've never seen before. What you were crying about in my previous post, is light compared to what I'm capable of

See some of the comments on Motylev vs Carlsen, 2006

Dec-04-09  Knight13: <Riverbeast>

I did not accuse you of being jealous. I did not say anything about you being jealous.

But since you are looking for a fight, go ahead and give me a verbal beat down.

It should be entertaining.

You jealous elitist bastard (since you accused me of saying you're jealous, and I already got kicked for it, I might as well actually accuse you of one. Now I have a good reason to receive your little fist-fight, you jealous bastard).

:-D

Dec-04-09  Knight13: I love how you people equivocate and draw ridiculous implications from my posts. It's funny.

I should do the same from now on.

See, the world IS an evil and cruel place after all, huh?

HeMateMe: I think your surprised mouse avatar is very cute. Peace out, happy holidays.
Dec-04-09  Knight13: But who cares? I tried to be nice a while ago. Didn't work out. I now have a lot of scars on my body from every damn crap that people threw at me.

And you all get all act-up from a random person that you don't even know.

LOL you should join my life and see how the cruel world works?

You all and your lucky lives... I used to get bullied in elementary school, and now I'm the one being a douchebag.

Hope you all don't mind. I tried, and didn't work. I was being delusional thinking that life and people are actually good.

Dec-04-09  Knight13: <HeMateMe: I think your surprised mouse avatar is very cute. Peace out, happy holidays.>

That reminds me of my old days when I used to smile (I used to use a different moust avatar) and trick myself into thinking that this is a happy world.

It is not. But it doesn't hurt to constantly remind myself with an icon of how stupid and dumb I was to try to even see the good in someone else.

We're all selfish bastards in the end, and everyone just put up masks to make you think they're nice.

Dec-04-09  Riverbeast: <knight13> If I misread you, then there's no beat-down necessary

You had cut-and-pasted my message, then used it as an example of 'jealousy', so the conclusion was easy to make

But frankly I prefer to avoid the 'Tom and Jerry' stuff on this site

As far as I'm concerned, I'm not resentful of the rich, nor am I jealous of them.

In fact, most of the ones I've met, I wouldn't trade places with in a million years

ah yes, you will do splendidly in the Ivy Leagues.

Dec-04-09  timhortons: <if you go to an absolutely top school with brilliant teachers and all the best facilities, you can get a pretty good education just by floating along on moderate effort.>

jim, do you think one can do this at west point military academy?

Dec-04-09  Jim Bartle: No...
