|Dec-28-09|| ||waustad: <tamar>A lot of games don't make it into the database, so I checked and she had no FIDE rated games since the 2007 North Urals Cup.|
|Dec-28-09|| ||Karpova: Galliamova - T. Kosintseva 1/2
N. Kosintseva - Bodnaruk 1-0
Now Galliamova is "only" 1/2 point ahead of Nadezhda.
|Dec-28-09|| ||Karpova: Finally a win for Marina Romanko (with white against Zaiatz) after such a horrible tournament for her!|
Manakova - Gunina 0-1
|Dec-28-09|| ||tamar: thanks <waustadt> puzzling how she could be so steady after a break|
though perhaps she used her time to reinvent herself
Kasparov thought his time off made it harder for Karpov to prepare for him in their recent encounter.
|Dec-28-09|| ||DIO: I am wondering if the Kosintsevas' Italian game draws will come to an end in this tournament ...|
|Dec-28-09|| ||wanabe2000: Alisa Galliamova vs Valentina Gunina will be interesting. If Galliamova obtains a draw she will win because the Kosintseva sisters will play a 7 or 9 move Giuoco Piano draw. (As I have posted before, I don't blame them. The Polgar sisters did that for quite a time till they got serious and played some really good games).|
|Dec-29-09|| ||siamesedream: I think it will be easy win for Nadezhda. ;)|
|Dec-29-09|| ||Raskolnikov: I think the Kosintsevas will play a draw as usuall :)|
|Dec-29-09|| ||whiteshark: <Raskolnikov: I think the Kosintsevas will play a draw as usual :)> Oops, they did it again. Draw in 13 moves.|
|Dec-29-09|| ||Karpova: Gunina - Galliamova was drawn in 12 moves.|
|Dec-29-09|| ||whiteshark: ...immediately followed by Gunina and Galliamova, 12 moves.|
|Dec-29-09|| ||siamesedream: Congratulations to Alisa Galliamova-Ivanchuk.|
|Dec-29-09|| ||Peligroso Patzer: < *** the Kosintseva sisters will play a 7 or 9 move Giuoco Piano draw. *** >|
Well, it was a Sicilian Richter-Rauzer, and it went 13 moves, but still a short draw nonetheless (which enabled Galliamova to clinch the championship with a 12-move draw).
|Dec-29-09|| ||dr.carreras: It seems that Chucky has been doing some serious work with his wife recently!! congratulations Mrs. Galliamova!!|
|Dec-29-09|| ||Karpova: The other results:
Bodnaruk - Romanko 1-0
Stepovaia - Manakova 1-0
|Dec-29-09|| ||Astardis: I understand the thought behind those short draws between the sisters, but it seems kind of unfair. I mean, Nadezhda still had chances to take the title. And not such an unimportant title for that matter. Between true sportswomen a fight should be possible. After all, they are adults now... And hey, what will they do if they ever meet in a match situation?
However, I'm very happy about Galliamova's splendid performance!|
|Dec-29-09|| ||Jim Bartle: That may be bad, but I used to play tournaments in a little town where two participants were a father and son. They would always make excuses not to play their games against each other, wait to play until the end of the tournament, then the person with the higher score would always win.|
|Dec-29-09|| ||hms123: <Jim Bartle> Your point is well-taken. What if the sisters had played a real game and NK had won--thus creating a tie for first place? Then the accusation would have been that TK threw the game. |
They made a good choice in this particular situation. They only hurt themselves, not anyone else.
|Dec-29-09|| ||keypusher: <dr.carreras: It seems that Chucky has been doing some serious work with his wife recently!! congratulations Mrs. Galliamova!!>|
They have been divorced for quite a while.
|Dec-29-09|| ||Wild Bill: We should really stop calling the lady Galliamova-Ivanchuk. They split ages ago and have both remarried.|
BTW, if I am not mistaken, the proper way to formally address or refer to a Russian is first name and patronym; in this case, Alisa Mikhailovna.
Does anybody have an update on Natalia Andreevna?
|Dec-29-09|| ||keypusher: <Wild Bill: We should really stop calling the lady Galliamova-Ivanchuk. They split ages ago and have both remarried.>|
Ivanchuk is remarried?? Who is the unfortunate victim? I mean, the lucky woman?

|Dec-29-09|| ||Kaspablanca: I dont get this; why the current woman world champion, Alexandra Kosteniuk(Russia) is not playing this championship?|
|Dec-29-09|| ||Albertan: Kaspablanca according to Alexandra Kosteniuk's chess blog this is why she did not play in this year's Russian Chess Championship:|
Blogger Alexandra Kosteniuk said...
"This fall I had a very busy schedule and was away from my family for almost 2 months, I couldn't think of being away from them for one more month. I hope next year they will choose another timing for this tournament as the end of the year is not good for me."
|Dec-29-09|| ||Kaspablanca: Thanks Albertan.|
