Feb-14-10  unsound: I see Cheparinov sac'ed a piece on move 13 too, against Timofeev, but his compensation took the more concrete form of 3 pawns.
Feb-14-10  unsound: <trimind> Nguyen found that too, and now it's not obvious to me how white continues the attack.

Strongest Force: It may be difficult to defend against that Nepo sac. My history with computers tell me that they (just like humans) can over-look attack-resources.
Feb-14-10  unsound: Well, OK, it is obvious: he can stick his queen on h6 and conjure up some rapid mating threats. But I'm not sure that will lead to anything concrete.
Feb-14-10  trimind:

Here is the position. It looks quite sharp and white can launch a dangerous attack( an assault, maybe) against black king but black can still hold the game( and even win back).

Feb-14-10  unsound: Um, did Nguyen just blunder back the piece?
Feb-14-10  unsound: After 24...Ne4? 25. Bb6, and suddenly the knight on c7 has no reasonable square.
Feb-14-10  nuwanda:
maybe he can play 25...Nd5

...

Feb-14-10  trimind: What the...!

After that, black Nf3 would give black the advantage!!! Black's 24th move was a clear mistake.

wordfunph: rybka didn't like Ngoc's 24...Ne4 and white has the chance the overturn the game.

go Vietnam!

Feb-14-10  trimind: GM Nguyen seems to down the fight!

i still trust GM Ngoc's ability to rise..
26...Bb7 played.

Feb-14-10  trimind: <wordfunph>I agree with you. GM Nguyen is now equalised the game. Very interesting. I guess wordfunph is a Vietnamese, right?

i'm from Philippines, i met and talked with GM Ngoc during one of Philippine tourneys and he's very modest. Yes it's pretty equal now..

<trimind> are you from Vietnam?

Strongest Force: I think Nepo is fighting for the draw while Le is fighting for more than a draw.
Feb-14-10  unsound: Le took a draw, however. Meanwhile Bareev took a poisoned pawn and had to resign immediately afterward against Bacrot.

A <PINNING MASTERPIECE> by Bacrot.

20 Bc4xf7+! is a beautiful <DECOY FOR TEMPO>, <DRAGGING> the Black g8-king onto the f7-square so that Re1xNe7+ will be done with <CHECK>.

All these <PINS> are very reminiscent of his fellow countryman Vachier-Lagrave's win over Mchedlishvili in the Bundesliga last weekend.

PhilFeeley: The Kamsky game is wild.
Feb-14-10  ROADDOG: <notyetagm: Bacrot just won a miniature against Bareev> Sacrebleu! 20 moves.

With the win, Bacrot joins a large group at 4, just a 1/2 point behind the leaders.

Vachier-Lagrave won also. Great day for the two Frenchmen at Aeroflot

Feb-14-10  redwhitechess: I wish there is a player standing in CG for swiss tournament. Review of last night round, Loek van Wely is nice player to watch Live, Hou won to Salem, Naidistch won Mame and Nguyen survive that 'kill the Sicilian sac'. Round 7 interesting pairings to see :

Nguyen - Grachev
Naiditsch - Le
van Wely - MVL
