 | | percyblakeney: Maybe Gelfand could be seen as a minor problem since Carlsen still never has won against him while for example Radjabov has lined up several wins against him lately, but it doesn't feel as if Gelfand will go undefeated against Carlsen much longer. |
 |
| Jun-25-10 | | frogbert: <I guess I mentioned Aronian because I was projecting back to the 2007 candidates match Carlsen lost. I am remembering that correctly, right?> when carlsen was a little more than 16 in 2007, the results in the candidates were: 3-3 in 6 classical games
2-2 in 4 rapid games
0-2 in 2 blitz games
given that aronian was the clearly highest rated player of the two, i don't think that indicates "performance difficulties". :o) ps! today carlsen is the better blitz player of the two, i think... |

 | | suenteus po 147: <frogbert> Point taken. It stayed with me, I guess, because I was really rooting for Carlsen to beat Aronian and he let me down :( Of course now, Carlsen only lets me down if he doesn't win undefeated. And he hasn't let me down very much recently :) |

 | | percyblakeney: Carlsen's five latest tournaments:
Nanjing +6 3002
Tal +2 2838
London +3 2840
Wijk +4 2822
Bazna +5 2920
Sole first in all of them except the Tal Memorial, where it was said that he played with fever, and finished 0.5 from first. Total score +21 -1 =27 against quite strong opposition. |

 | | whatthefat: <percyblakeney>
Pretty incredible. If he keeps going like this he'll be the first player since Kasparov to open up a really large lead over #2 in the ratings. |
 |
| Jun-25-10 | | wordfunph: <whatthefat: If he keeps going like this he'll be the first player since Kasparov to open up a really large lead over #2 in the ratings.> i believe so...or he may even break Kaspa's 2851 before 2011. |

 | | parmetd: what truly impressive is three black wins! And in the last round no less. Wang Yue the only player without a win. |
 |
| Jun-25-10 | | DeepTrouble: Frogbert:
Do you know if this tournament will be included in the FIDE july rating list? |
 |
| Jun-25-10 | | frogbert: don't know - technically the deadline was on wednesday or yesterday, i think. but you never know with fide. |

Jun-25-10
 | | suenteus po 147: Huh. Two of Radjabov's three wins were with the King's Indian Defense. Yet both his losses were playing the Sicilian Defense. If I were Radjabov I would expect to see a lot of 1.e4 from now on when defending as black. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | bharatiy: <suenteus> for Radjabov its not defending with black but defending with white most of the time!-) |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | suenteus po 147: <bharatiy> I'm not too concerned about his performance with the white pieces usually. Here he is +1 with white, but two losses against 1.e4 with the Sicilian is troubling, especially since capitalizing on advantages with the black pieces has been his forte. And the Sicilian has been letting him down in other events too. Has he given up the French? |
 |
| Jun-25-10 | | okba1: put radjabov as second and not therd -probably chess games is dominated by j----!!.reminde u he beated him in direct encounters |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | parmetd: Radjabov himself has stated his weakness is the white pieces. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | bharatiy: <suenteus> I said that half jokingly as Radjabov is known to have sharp opening repertoire as black and not so good as white. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | percyblakeney: Radjabov has +22 -5 =29 with the KID since Feb 18th 2006, with most of the games played in top events. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | percyblakeney: Wang Yue has been rather stable with scores around -1 in top tournaments, but this was an unusually bad event for him and he will have to improve to get back to the top ten. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | acirce: Carlsen vs Radjabov, 2010 was my favourite game of Carlsen's in this tournament. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | percyblakeney: My favourite: Nisipeanu vs Carlsen, 2010 |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | suenteus po 147: My favorite game of the tournament was Radjabov vs Gelfand, 2010 Thrilling stuff for me. My favorite of Carlsen's was Carlsen vs Wang Yue, 2010 Carlsen has guts galore, I'll give him that. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | percyblakeney: I liked Radjabov's three wins, and Carlsen's winning with the King's Gambit was one of many highlights in an exciting tournament. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | Kinghunt: FIDE has all his games listed as expected changes for the next list: http://ratings.fide.com/individual_... So I'd say this probably will be included. |
 |
Jun-25-10
 | | parmetd: I think this: Gelfand vs Wang Yue, 2010 was easily the best game of the tournament (Gelfand-Wang) but the KG Carlsen game was only exciting to people because it was the KG not because of the game itself. |
 |
| Jun-25-10 | | DeepTrouble: Frogbert: Ok, thanks anyway.
Kinghunt: Thanks, this strongly indicates that Magnus's official rating will be updated. |
