achieve: Great work - thanks CG!

No doubt some fascinating games still ahead, and another chance to witness <Giri>'s progress towards the elite GM guild.

SIX rounds to go

Marmot PFL: Great start for Smeets. Van Wely on the other hand doesn't seem too interested in chess anymore.

<Giri> has also won his fifth round game vs Bok, with white pieces, and thus will be sharing the lead with Smeets half way.

I'll post the PGN - hopefully with some analysis- later.

dakgootje: Quick 15-move draw with black from Giri against Smeets. Safe decision and probably drawish anyway - not the most adventurous but who would've done otherwise?

achieve: Good endgame by Van Wely against Giri, and if I noticed correctly Smeets looks odds on to win his game vs l'Ami, which means Smeets can move a full point clear from the field with one round left... Smeets/l'Ami still playing though.
Jun-19-10  evlozare: gmjan smeets sensed a win in the game and the tournament as well, so he tried his best to eke out the win. nice performance gmjan smeets!

whiteshark: <Stonehenge> 3... Nb8 is probably a surprising TN (Opening Explorer) A quick draw seems to be a pragmatical solution. Not. :D

  Marmot PFL: <1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nb8 4.Bf1 1/2> Why not 4 Nxe5?

  whiteshark: <Marmot PFL> A typo, it's only 3...Nf6 1/2 Here is the game: R Van Kampen vs J Smeets, 2010

  Stonehenge: Transmission error methinks.
Jun-20-10  Gryz: Van Wely decided this tournament. He was the only one who beat Giri. With an extra point Giri would have been equal or higher than Smeets.

Supposedly Van Wely's motivation was that "during the last few weeks, he had read a few times too often that Giri is the best Dutch chess player".

:)

Jun-21-10  evlozare: well, after all, giri had the championship of 2010 corus B under his belt while smeets and van wely were among the tailenders in corus A.
Jun-21-10  shintaro go: <evlozare: well, after all, giri had the championship of 2010 corus B under his belt while smeets and van wely were among the tailenders in corus A.> As Giri will be in Corus A 2011.
Jun-22-10  syracrophy: Anish Giri is great! An amazing revelation!
