| Aug-08-10 | | frogbert: <A Swiss tournament as a top seed is hardly the place to gain rating points.> that depends to a big part on the specific player in question. adams has gained 22 points now from events he's had to put up big scores (against relatively weak players) in order to <keep> his rating. several other elite players are notably better at gaining rating points against 2500-players than against other 2700-players. btw, the front page is wrong in its intro to this event: adams won with 9/11, but he'd already won after round 10, when he was 8,5/10. |

I do not believe invitations should be extended to or accepted by someone with such an enormous rating gap. Let Micky play with someone his own size and see if the results are any different. | | pawn to QB4: Of course, during all those years when neither Adams or Short participated, people put the opposite whine: why don't the top guys support their national championship and doesn't their non-appearance devalue the title? I imagine the other people were keen to chance their arm against him: for me, Wells in particular came out with great credit. |

 | | GrahamClayton: The 21 year gap between Adam's first British championship in 1989 and his third title in 2010 is a record. It was also Adam's first appearance in the British championship after winning the title for a second time in 1997. Interesting that the Pert brothers finished 2nd and 3rd. When was the last time two brothers finished in the major placings in a national championship tournament? The Johner brothers in Switzerland come to mind. |
