watwinc: Yes, there was a Zeppo. Also a Gummo.
Aug-09-10  edbermac: < Marmot PFL: Don't remember him, just Chico, Harpo and Groucho. >

I thought it was Moe, Larry and Curly.

HeMateMe: This is a memorial tournament for the sixth Marks brother, the one from Hungary, who didn't get to be in the movies.

twinlark: There was a sixth Marx brother besides Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Zeppo and Gummo...namely Manny who died in 1886 aged 7 months before the others were born.

wordfunph: -1 for Timman after 6 rounds..

come on Jan!

Aug-14-10  percyblakeney: Another loss for Timman, in 26 moves with white this time, but he stays ahead of Robson who lost his third in a row today.
Aug-14-10  percyblakeney: Robson-Acs is worth a look once it is added, a couple of early piece sacrifices from Acs.
Aug-15-10  unsound: It looks like Robson has good chances to leapfrog Timman today.
Aug-15-10  percyblakeney: In the women's section 69-year-old Nona Gaprindashvili shares the lead with one round to go.
Aug-15-10  percyblakeney: Only one move seems to win for Timman, but he had seen enough Monday puzzles to play Qd5:

He blundered a few moves later though, and not in time trouble but after thinking for ten minutes:

Bc4 simply threatens to queen on f1 and wins immediately but after careful consideration Timman chose Bd5, after which Robson had Be2 and might even win this now.

Aug-15-10  unsound: Thanks <pb>. That did not go anything like as I anticipated, but Robson did indeed win.
Aug-15-10  percyblakeney: <Robson did indeed win>

Yes, his taking chances and avoiding the draw earlier in the game paid off in the end, but a bit sad to see a once great player like Timman think for so long and fail to find a move like Bc4 in that last diagram...

Aug-15-10  unsound: Agreed; I was hoping Robson would do well, but not because of something like that from a former great.
Aug-15-10  Mameluk: Quite a one man show, isn´t it?
Aug-16-10  Don Cossacks: Laznicka on hot winning streak.
Aug-16-10  percyblakeney: Laznicka finished what was an excellent event for him with an underpromotion against Robson.
Aug-16-10  percyblakeney: Timman finally got a win, he must have been unhappy with the blunder against Robson and suddenly played as in the good old days, beating 2700+ Almasi.
Aug-16-10  Astardis: Gaprindashvili won the women's tournament. Quite impressive, sort of a female Korchnoi!
