ketchuplover: Nyzhnyk in time trouble :(

Eyal: It looks like Vocaturo miscalculated and he might be actually losing now; he shouldn't have a perpetual (or a win) after 29...axb4 30.Bxg6, which I suppose is what he's planning - but of course anything can happen in time trouble.
Jan-30-11  Kazzak: I'm not too unhappy with Nyzhnyk's position here.

Nyzhnyk should be accurate now and play 32...Kxg6 rather than 32...Bxd6? which allows a draw after 33.Qh5 Nf6 34.Rxf6! Kxf6 35.Qh6+ with perpetual.

I guess your hunch was right...

Jan-30-11  Kazzak: We'll see - they'll play on.

Nyzhnyk had him, and is going to hate the fact.

But Nyzhnyk's playing is at another level entirely, and he'll put together a wall of chess, given a little time.

Jan-30-11  siamesedream: Nyzhnyk spoiled his chance. Hope they will invite him to B group anyway.

Congratulations to Daniele Vacaturo!

Eyal: It's simply a perpetual, there's no play left after 32...Bxd6. Not that 32...Kxg6 was so simple - after 33.Qe4+ Black has to play the king to h6 and allow Nf7+ winning the queen; but Black has so much material already that he could afford it, at least he could keep playing for a win even if it's not trivial.

ketchuplover: congrats to Vocaturo. good luck in class B next year. good show by Illya. see ya next year.
Jan-30-11  randyjohnson: AWESOME!
Jan-30-11  Kazzak: Imagine if Nyzhnyk had found the winning Queen sacrifice - he would have been the hero of Wijk.
Jan-30-11  moroloser: Eyal is always right, thx God. Great tournament by Vocaturo but I agree with <Kazzak> here, the russian kid will be a much better player in a very short time. I believe both deserve B group next year.

Actually, Nyzhnyk is Ukranian.

KingG: What a shame for Nyzhnyk. Nevermind, in a couple of years he will probably be playing in the A group.
Jan-30-11  laskereshevsky: After all Nyzhnyk not deserved to win the tournament, basically cause He had a BIG Chance to do it, But didnt handled the pressure in a properly way....

I mean Kxg6 in place of Nxd6 much probably is a winning line.....

But this is not a shame, after all is still more a child then a teenager...:)

Credit to Nyzhnyk

Celebration to Vocaturo.... All in All the worthy winner

Jan-30-11  laskereshevsky: Found in an Italian chess-site this picture in an editorial to celebrate the Voc. victory:

YouRang: Woo hoo! I had 100 chessbucks on Vocaturo. Sheer luck -- I liked his name.
Jan-30-11  Bdellovibrio: Sachdev, the lowest rated player in the field, finished even, and was one of only three players to beat the leader.
Jan-31-11  Kanatahodets: To call Nizhnik a Russian is the same as call French guy a British.
Jan-31-11  BobCrisp: Some of those French guys were called Kings of England.
Feb-01-11  moroloser: <Kanatahodets> Yes ok, deeply sorry about it, I've called the guy "russian" because I honestly thought that was his nationality and not because I don't know the difference between Russia and Ukraina as you seem to assume... But anyway thanks for your little lesson.
