parmetd: pi like the math symbol... octopi the plural of octopus... seriously its hilarious.
May-25-11  Kazzak: Parmetd's avatar is an iq-test. You either get it, or you don't. Very funny. Needing to have it pointed out is weird, and also funny.
May-25-11  rilkefan: Maybe the Greek alphabet is more present in our lives.

Note also that the joke presumably references the common incorrect pluralization "octopi" for "octopuses" taking the "us" to indicate a Latin noun of the 2nd declension. I guess "octopodes" is also technically correct.

May-25-11  Kazzak: I also like the visual reference to centipedes/millipedes.

It's a very nice avatar - that also points to Aronofsky's movie.

parmetd: it's been awhile since I've seen that movie. A classic.

perfidious: <Agent Bouncy: I'd guess, parmetd, that you don't like Fran Drescher either.>

Looking at her was fine; listening was another story altogether.

Same with Jen Shahade. My experience of dealing with her was that she was a bit full of herself, though that might well be attributable to being a young, halfway attractive woman in a male-dominated field, as is also true now that she plays poker.

Has Ashley improved as a commentator? When I was at the New York Grand Prix in 1994, which he worked with Danny King, all Ashley seemed able to say was 'indeed' in response to any remarks by King.

May-25-11  rilkefan: Oops, didn't see <parmetd>'s reply when writing my last.

Shams: <OCF> I can't believe you inflicted that octopus-handshake cartoon on us.
May-25-11  James Bowman: <pi like the math symbol... octopi the plural of octopus... seriously its hilarious.>

Lol funny on several levels once understood sorry I overlooked it.

As youngsters my freind John and I would frequently play frisbee on his street, moving aside and commencing play once traffic passed by, we then switched to chess also playing in the road and moving the board aside and returning to the middle of the road as traffic passed.

How this is linked to <parmetd>'s humor I don't know but other demented minds might see the connection, or it might just mean it's time for my meds?

I sort of have a love/hate feeling about Kate Bush's music when I run across it; this song is a good example of why.

perfidious: <rilkefan> Back when Kate Bush released 'The Kick Inside', I had a friend who was hot for her.

Wouldn't have minded a go myself!

May-26-11  hellopolgar: on the main page it says "followed by a <2.5-0.3> victory in a four game rapid match."...

May-26-11  Everett: <rilkefan> is that a rip off of The Who in the beginning, or paying "homage?"
May-26-11  belgradegambit: < Everett: <rilkefan> is that a rip off of The Who in the beginning, or paying "homage?"> I don't think we'll get fooled again.
May-27-11  BobCrisp: According to <cg.com>:

<St. Louis, Missouri
May 17-25

Nakamura defeated Ponomariov 3.5 to 2.5 in the classical match, followed by a 2.5-0.3 victory in a four game rapid match.>
