 | | perfidious: Will Dorfman manage to play a thirty-move game in this event? |

 | | whiteshark: <perfidious> You're looking for fish among the treetops. :D |

 | | kellmano: A shame Vladislav Tkachiev is not playing. |
 |

 | | Harvestman: Hmm, of 30 games, 9 of them didn't go 20 moves.
I don't object to a short draw per se, having played a few of them myself, but that percentage (15%) seems a bit high to me. |
 |
| Aug-19-11 | | Valmy: DORFMAN was/is the coach of most of the young french players. I assume this is why he has short draws. |
 |
Aug-19-11
 | | perfidious: <whiteshark: I've been known to chase the chimaera at other times too! <Harvestman> That 15% figure would be high enough, but the actual 30% is what one would call lame-rather reminds one of the recent world championships! |
 |
| Aug-19-11 | | Blunderdome: Only 3 of the 30 classical games in the Candidates' matches did not reach 20 moves. All of them involved Alexander Grischuk. |
 |
| Aug-19-11 | | Blunderdome: That's assuming CG.com categorized the classical, rapid and blitz games correctly, which they usually do for recent events. |

| Aug-19-11 | | arnaud1959: <Valmy: DORFMAN was/is the coach of most of the young french players. I assume this is why he has short draws.> Well, it should be a reason to encourage them to beat him. He has been the same Dorfman for years now. |

| Aug-20-11 | | pulsar: No one plays the French at the French Championships? |
 |
| Aug-20-11 | | pulsar: 'cept this: M Vachier-Lagrave vs R Edouard, 2011 |
 |
| Aug-20-11 | | JoePhysics: Notice that they have listed the same person twice.

Jean has played 7 games.
Andrei Shchekachev 1.5/6 (+0 -3 =3) [view games]
Alexej Shchekachev 1/1 (+1 -0 =0) [view games]
These two combined have played 7 games. |

| Aug-21-11 | | Robyn Hode: I bought Bauer's The Philidor Files book and here he won't play it! :) |
 |
Aug-21-11
 | | perfidious: <Robyn Hode: I bought Bauer's The Philidor Files book and here he won't play it! :)> Bent Larsen did the same sort of thing with the Open Spanish back in the late 1960s after publishing a work on the line, but it made sense from a practical point of view. Larsen always liked to play a variety of openings anyway, but to stick too closely to the one variation would have made it far too simple to prepare for him by looking for holes in his analysis. |

| Aug-21-11 | | dumbgai: Istratescu and Hamdouchi are French citizens now? |
 |
Aug-21-11
 | | kingfu: Only one French Defense in the The French Championship? Come on folks. Ayfkm? |
 |
Aug-21-11
 | | virginmind: <dumbgai> no idea about istratescu, although he does appear on the french elo list beginning with may 2011. |

| Aug-22-11 | | shalgo: Is there some kind of chess/bodybuilding culture in France? Most chessplayers are hardly known for their physical strength, but Feller, Bauer, and Bacrot all look seriously pumped up. http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... |
