 | | kingscrusher: I have video annotated some of Ivanchuk's wins in my Chessbase radio show which I uploaded to Youtube earlier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQdY... |
| Sep-06-11 | | WiseWizard: <frogbert> Why is it harder to tell where the center of fluctuation lies for players in positive development? Is Karjakin one of these players? |
Sep-07-11
 | | HeMateMe: G-Kam has white, lets hope the train keep-a-rollin. |
Sep-07-11
 | | parmetd: Lets go Kamsky Lets go!
GO Gata Go! |
Sep-07-11
 | | kellmano: Three need to win with black, and three with white to level up the scores and take it to tiebreaks. I predict 2 of the 6 will achieve it. |

 | | Hesam7: Why does Grischuk have Black again? |
Sep-07-11
 | | Hesam7: Anybody listening to the English commentary? It is hilarious. |

 | | Honza Cervenka: <Why does Grischuk have Black again?> It was just a mistake on the official site. Now they fixed it. |
| Sep-07-11 | | zluria: Grischuk - Potkin is a rare variation of the French. Up until 8. ...b5 it's all theory, but 9. Nd1 is extremely rare. Gris may have prepared this at home. This counter-intuitive move seems to have the aim of bolstering the center with c3. Potkin's reply, 9. ... b4, is aimed at opening up some lines on the Queenside after c3, and seems to have taken Gris by surprise, since he went into a long think right after that. The move has been seen before, however, in the obscure game
R Zelcic vs A Berescu, 2005 . |

| Sep-07-11 | | Pyke: <Hesam7: Anybody listening to the English commentary? It is hilarious.> Indeed! I think commentating for some days now, without any breaks, is slowly beginning to tell ;-) |
| Sep-07-11 | | zluria: It looks like Svidler is in a little trouble in his game against Kamsky. He's lost a pawn, his Kingside is weak and all of his pieces are stuck on the Queenside. |
| Sep-07-11 | | Lady In Black: what are the criteria that excluded Kramnik, Carlsen, Topalov, Nakamura from playing this Cup? |
Sep-07-11
 | | HeMateMe: Carlsen has the highest rating; VK I think is already seeded into the next series of Candidates matches because he made it to the final four last time (and couldn't prepare for this event). I don't know why the other two aren't playing, especially young Naka. |
| Sep-07-11 | | zluria: The condition that you have to want to play, I would think. I'd guess the Top players who aren't here just didn't want to play here, for various reasons. Kramnik has never played in these events because they were used, years ago, to discredit his crown when he was world champion. Carlsen is currently at war with Fide and the very concept of a world champion. Topalov may well be too proud to play in this kind of event. Nakamura, though, should be here. It's totally his kind of event. I have no idea why he isn't participating. |

| Sep-07-11 | | paavoh: @hesam7: <Anybody listening to the English commentary? It is hilarious.>
Well, all I hear at the moment is "Bleeeeeep" and funny colors displayed on the video. Anyway, the commentary during the rapid games, nevermind the blitz, is far from enlightening as they struggle to keep pace with the moves ;-) |

 | | Hesam7: <Pyke: <Hesam7: Anybody listening to the English commentary? It is hilarious.> Indeed! I think commentating for some days now, without any breaks, is slowly beginning to tell ;-)> For those who missed it here is some of the topics that were covered: 1. The video was showing Ponomariov - Bruzon and the bottom of another table with players legs were visible, then the male commentator asked the female one which legs she liked better. 2. Then both tried to guess to whom the legs belonged. 3. The female commentator then opined that if this was a women only event guys would be all over the beautiful legs. 4. Then she asked the male commentator if he had played against beautiful women and if so how distracted he was. 5. They noted that Judit was wearing her lucky scarf. 6. Also Judit is wearing heals today!
7. The female commentator said that she has a big crush on Peter Heine Nielsen. I am not making this up, she did not say she had crush but she said Peter was the tallest and the most handsome player among all the others and then giggled. This was all in a space of 10-15 minutes and I may have missed some (there was talk of 'silly blondes' but I did not catch the entire conversation). |
| Sep-07-11 | | Pyke: <Hesam7> Female commentator is Anna Sharevich It's curious that they had technical difficulties afterwards ... ;-) |
Sep-07-11
 | | Peligroso Patzer: <kellmano: Three need to win with black, and three with white to level up the scores and take it to tiebreaks. *** > <Honza Cervenka: <Why does Grischuk have Black again?> It was just a mistake on the official site. Now they fixed it.> So there are actually four today (including Grischuk) who can force tie-breaks if they can win <with White>. |
| Sep-07-11 | | paavoh: Gashimov and Radjabov seem to be in full control, likely to draw their games today, and advance to the next round. Too bad for Kamsky, he apparently blundered according to the engines. |
| Sep-07-11 | | Refused: <Hesam7> Commentators are Anna Sharevich and Konstantin Landa. |
Sep-07-11
 | | Hesam7: OK Kamsky is the first goner. 26. ... Re2 was really nice I needed a long moment to see why 27. Qxe2 does not work. |
| Sep-07-11 | | Pyke: <Hesam7: OK Kamsky is the first goner. 26. ... Re2 was really nice I needed a long moment to see why 27. Qxe2 does not work.> Could you please give a continuation? |
| Sep-07-11 | | Kanatahodets: Bu-Chucky, I think its a draw. Vassiliy has some kind of attack on king's side but I dont see anything real. On the other hand Chucky has two weak pawns which will be constant problem. They cannot be protected by other pawns and in the endgame this can play a role. |

I am not Hesam and I did not deeply into it.
But the idea was probably Qg3 and white will get mated on g2. (Note after Qxe2 the Queen is no longer on the c file to close the a8-h1 diagonal) |
| Sep-07-11 | | Kanatahodets: Second sac by Lenier!!! Boy, this guy gonna lose, he has just few minutes left till control... Judith go! |
