| Sep-10-11 | | HowDoesTheHorsieMove: A rather quick draw between Yifan Hou and Zhao Xue. Stockfish on Chessbomb agrees the repetition is best, but I suspect each is happy with what is in effect a rest day here. |

| Sep-10-11 | | dumbgai: <The second Women's Grand Prix of the 2011-2012 series was pushed back to give Hou Yifan a chance to participate after her elimination in the 2011 World Cup.> An entire tournament rescheduled to accommodate one player? Talk about a hometown advantage. |

| Sep-12-11 | | dumbgai: <whiteshark: Yildiz has lost against Tan in only 24 moves. There goes the hope of the Ottoman chess Empire> Yildiz has always been the punching bag at these events. She only gets invited because her home country has sponsors. |

 | | HeMateMe: Hou and Ru, last contestants for the world championship, are at the top of the standings. I guess the cream rises to the top. Seems a shame that Ruan Lufei is going to interrupt (or end) her professional chess career to get a masters in accounting at Carnegie Mellon. Seems a bit odd--you really don't need a masters in accounting to work as one. What you really need, is to pass the CPA exam, the acid test of whether or not you possess accountancy skills. Me thinks she is getting a chess scholarship to Mellon. A chance to get a $100K per year education, and probably a green card, is quite a carrot to offer. There, she will terrorize unknowing frat boys from the Big Ten, Pac Ten, Big Eight, CUNY, and whatever college groupings there may be, at the annual Pan Am tournament. Perhaps she will put that accounting career on hold for a few years, like that fellow Reshevsky did. |
Sep-15-11
 | | dx9293: I thought Ruan Lufei was getting a PhD in a science-related field. I know for sure she is in a PhD program. I doubt she is getting a chess scholarship for that. |
Sep-15-11
 | | dx9293: Incidentally, if she can beat Hou Yifan in Round 9, I believe she will earn her second GM norm! The first she earned by becoming runner-up in the Women's World Championship (winner gets the GM title automatically if they do not already have it). |

| Sep-17-11 | | HowDoesTheHorsieMove: <Incidentally, if she can beat Hou Yifan in Round 9, I believe she will earn her second GM norm!> It looks like no GM norm for Ruan Lufei since she lost to Hou Yifan. Yifan is looking good to win another of these tournaments, since she up a full point with two rounds to go. |
Sep-19-11
 | | HeMateMe: Yifan should seal the tournament win with just a draw. |
Sep-20-11
 | | HeMateMe: Congratulations to Hou Yifan; she wins by a full point. |

 | | whiteshark: The West has something China lacks: <marrying age women. <Over the next decade China will have a gender gap of something north of 30 million. That means at least thirty million hormone filled boys are not only not going to find a date to the Senior Prom, they aren't going to find a bride. <Already Chinese "entrepreneurs" are "exporting" women and young girls from border areas in neighboring countries to try to fill the need. Where I am they use the Chloroform Extraction Method.<Unless China's PR firms get started right now with their "To Bugger Thy Comrade is Glorious" campaign, China is going to have problems burning off all that testosterone. Maybe they have already begun...> > > > |

| Sep-20-11 | | Nina Myers: <whiteshark> Are you crazy? Most of the Chinese woman are fed up with their drinking guys, and would do anything to get out and marry Western guy. Just do your homework! |
| Sep-20-11 | | SimonWebbsTiger: I wonder if Yifan or Svidler are in contention for the next chess Oscar? What a wonderful string of results both have had! |
| Sep-20-11 | | Kanatahodets: Total domination of Chinese girls. I wonder why there are no Russian players here. Forget about Americans. It would be interesting to teach chess in American schools. Maybe it will distract Americans from buying too much of Chinese goods. |
| Sep-20-11 | | polarmis: Kanatahodets (Tightrope walker!?) - the next Grand Prix's in Nalchik, Russia, and it seems most of the Russian players are going to play there (the Kosintsevas, Kosteniuk). You only have to play 4 out of 6 events and they skipped this one. |
