 | | HeMateMe: Hou and Ru, last contestants for the world championship, are at the top of the standings. I guess the cream rises to the top. Seems a shame that Ruan Lufei is going to interrupt (or end) her professional chess career to get a masters in accounting at Carnegie Mellon. Seems a bit odd--you really don't need a masters in accounting to work as one. What you really need, is to pass the CPA exam, the acid test of whether or not you possess accountancy skills. Me thinks she is getting a chess scholarship to Mellon. A chance to get a $100K per year education, and probably a green card, is quite a carrot to offer. There, she will terrorize unknowing frat boys from the Big Ten, Pac Ten, Big Eight, CUNY, and whatever college groupings there may be, at the annual Pan Am tournament. Perhaps she will put that accounting career on hold for a few years, like that fellow Reshevsky did. |

It's quite strange given the abundance of Russian players that they skipped one of Grand Prix. Maybe the result of Kovalevskaya gives us a hint? Nobody wants to be wiped out by mighty Chinese Wall:) |
