Black played 36...Bxh4, perhaps thinking that after 37.gxh4, he could mount some kingside pressure with 37...Nd8 38.Rc3 Ne6

White didn't cooperate: 37.g4!

Black: doh!

waustad: Vallejo is the Smeets/van Wely of this tournament. They sometimes surprise, in this rarified air, but are often on the losing side. LvW had his share of Wijk wins but was often on the losing side of the most interesting game in a given round.

HeMateMe: Two more draws, and a Pons-punching bag.
Sep-27-11  GBKnight: Black against Aronian followed by black against Ivanchuk is not a kind draw. Mind you, he still has black against Anand, Carlsen and Nakamura to come. He might do better with white but its not looking good for the home player.
Sep-27-11  Tadeucouto: I d'ont belive.
It G4 is perfect ...

Very nice ! Thanks

Sep-27-11  redwhitechess: I see Vallejo is playing the Y.Betul of male version a lot of times already
Sep-27-11  two to the power six: Even though Anand has talent (and now perhaps results) equal to Kaspy, he really still lacks Kaspy's aggression. Kaspy will smash the defences of the likes of Nakamura.

Looks about right on Levon oo.

Sep-28-11  jsy: <Even though Anand has talent (and now perhaps results) equal to Kaspy, he really still lacks Kaspy's aggression. Kaspy will smash the defences of the likes of Nakamura.>

In this game it was Anand doing the defending. In any case, comparing almost anyone to Kaspy is bound to be unfair.

sevenseaman: Anand looks to be in a mood to draw. I do not think he is going to be very ambitious or adventurous this tournament.

In the process he may disappoint many of his followers who expect a reigning WC go smashing all opposition.

He is a cool cat. Kasparov took his image far more seriously.

Sep-28-11  messachess: So when do the fireworks begin? Enough of the beating up on 'Paco.' (I just saw this name here.--good nick name.)

jessicafischerqueen: Well this is why the old tradition of "The Rabbit" is good for chess.

<Generalissimo Francisco Franco> appears to be the Rabbit here, and the game is proving you can beat the rabbit more times than the other guy.

When rabbits were more plentiful, some excellent players made a living by eating them. <Salo Flohr>, for example, finished ahead of <Alekhine> in three tournaments by killing rabbits better.

He couldn't beat <Alekhine> head to head in a game, but thanks to "the Rabbit factor" he got to beat him in three tournaments.

boz: Thanks <polarmis> best report I've seen of the round so far. Clears up a number of questions that have come up, for example, why Nakamura feels frustrated, and how close hesam7 was to being correct (99% correct, at least).

And the hisory behind the Carlsen-Aronian encounter was fascinating.

Your good work is highly appreciated.

Sep-28-11  kia0708: <Personally I have more trouble with groundhogs.>

Are you talking about Kramnik ?

Sep-28-11  shutupimthinking: Rabbits can be very dangerous indeed.
