Nov-16-11  belgradegambit: Jansa beat Acers who tried a Schlielman. Heoverlooked a 2 move combo that won some pawns.

waustad: I just looked at Katalymov vs Rashkovsky 1-0. It must have been on time, since white looks dead lost.

waustad: OK, looking at chess-results.com, they have it as 0-1.

HeMateMe: <Rashkovsky > beat the pawnbroker.
Nov-20-11  Antiochus: Nice combinative win Jansa vs L Ptacnikova, 2011
Nov-21-11  dangerhump: There are lots of older players it would be fun to see play in an event like this. I guess you hit a certain age and it's too painful to see the decline in your abilities for some people.

ROMAN DZINDZICHASHVILI - 2500+
WALTER BROWNE - 2450
LAJOS PORTISCH - 2500+
ANDREW SOLTIS - 2400+
FLORIN GHEORGHIU -2380
LEV ALBURT - 2500+
BORIS GULKO - 2500+

These are just a few names off the top of my head that I would enjoy seeing games from again, I'm sure there are others.

HeMateMe: Only two draws on this page, out of 25 games. Who sez middle aged guys like a quiet game?
Nov-22-11  paavoh: @dangerhump: <There are lots of older players it would be fun to see play in an event like this> Jorn Sloth did well in the CC World championships, IIRC.
Nov-23-11  Penguincw: I guess Viktor Korchnoi didn't want to participate.
Nov-25-11  Penguincw: Just 4 rounds?
Nov-25-11  Antiochus: by round 10
William Kelleher won a sensational win against the russian Kuyindzhi(2435). Tomorrow is a rest day,
but on November 27 he will have white pieces against Vlastimil Jansa. Live Games http://www.rijekachess.com/index.ph... The time is 11:00 am (New York).

HeMateMe: I recognize a few names here--Balishov, Timoshenko, a couple of others. Is it Plus 50 to be eligible for this? A shame some of our best players from the 70s and 80s aren't interested in this.

Anyone for Seirwan v. Karpov, reduex?

Nov-26-11  Xeroxx: Is Korchnoi too old to parcicipate in this?

SteinitzLives: No, too greedy, and too mean.

HeMateMe: I suppose there's no money in something like this, but surely the players get their travel and hotel paid for? With that in mind, I would think some of the older heavyweights like Huebner, Robert Byrne, Yaz, Lev Alburt, et. al., would be happy to play some new games against their old opponents. Sort of like Fischer/Spassky, 1992. It's not as though they are trying to go up against Aronian or Carlsen.
Nov-27-11  GlennOliver: I'd like to see some of the qualifying English GMs, like Jon Speelman and Keith Arkell, for instance, taking part in future tournaments.
Nov-27-11  Prugno: It appears that the older generations have learned to use their mobile phones, but are not so good when it comes to turning them off. Look at what happened to GM Hulak: http://www.rijekachess.com/index.ph...

dx9293: IM Vladimir Okhotnik wins, and becomes a Grandmaster. Congratulations!
Nov-28-11  Antiochus: Well, the tournament finished yesterday.
IM Vladimir Okhotnik, the greatest surprise on the event, was the champion http://www.chess-results.com/tnr518... IM's Vladimir V Zhelnin and Mario Leopoldo Leskovar were surprises too. IM's Alexander Kuyindzhi and the former correspondence champion Jorn Sloth , obtained sensational wins, but then disappointed.

Nov-30-11  Penguincw: Maybe the tournament IS only 4 games long (per player).
Dec-07-11  Everett: <chessgames.com>

Are there any more games from this tournament?
