 | | Ezzy: Drawjakin just played another draw :-) |
 |
Jan-28-12
 | | ChessMan94: Can Carlsen win his game? Two rooks against one? Doesn't look good. |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | 310metaltrader: I think Carlsen's plan needs to be to get one rook off, and blockade with the bishop. It looks terminal for him, however. |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | 310metaltrader: That gamsky h pawn really should be enough? |
 |
Jan-28-12
 | | Kinghunt: Once Carlsen gets his king over to the queenside, it's a draw even without the a pawn. |

Jan-28-12
 | | ChessMan94: How come Topalov played 42.Rxh6+ What's wrong with 42.Re7 threatening mate with Qxg7 |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | kia0708: Ezzy, I think you are unfair with Karjakin, calling him names.
<Drawjakin just played another draw :-)> This is his second draw. In contrast Carlsen had 6 draws so far, and Nakamura 8 ! Even Aronian has more draws than Karjakin. |

 | | waustad: I suspect that his tongue was firmly placed in his cheek. |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | Prugno: Oh dear, Navara lost the exchange when two pawns up for free :-( If he could combine his brilliant mind with just a minimum of stability, like he did yesterday, he would be at the top and not at the bottom of the crosstable... |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | frogbert: <Kamsky knocked out Magnus out of the 2005 World Cup 3-1> he didn't really knock carlsen out, as it was the final round of the cup. kamsky won the (rather insignificant) match deciding who got 9th and 10th place - but both qualified to the 2007 candidates due to placing top 10. the classical games were split 1-1 and kamsky won the rapid play-off 2-0. |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | frogbert: oh, alexmagnus already wrote that. oh well. |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | timhortons: a school yard beatdown delivered by naka!
both americans played half man half machine today!
gratz kamsky and naka!
american champions! |

 | | NakoSonorense: <ChessMan94> <How come Topalov played 42.Rxh6+ What's wrong with 42.Re7 threatening mate with Qxg7> Black could respond 42...Qg4 and crisis averted. 42.Rxh6+ wins an easy pawn without compromising the attack and the position. |

| Jan-28-12 | | darshandatta: Hello guys whats happened in Aronian's game today? |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | Penguincw: Geez. Van Wely loss two in a row. I don't think he will be very confident tomorrow, with white against Carlsen. Meanwhile, Topalov is just about to hand Giri's 5th straight loss. |

| Jan-28-12 | | frogbert: brutal last 5 rounds for giri. he'll be in need of some good perspectives in order not to put too much weight on this turn-around after the win in reggio emilia (and the good start he had in wijk). |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | frogbert: great. gelfand succumbs to the pressure and blunders into a loss against aronian. time to congratulate the armenian with the tournament win then. |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | Penguincw: Now it's just a matter of when Topalov will beat Giri. < darshandatta: Hello guys whats happened in Aronian's game today? > Here is the current position:
Gelfand-Aronian
47.Kg3 (-5.31)
click for larger viewAronian has the upper hand. Carlsen and Radjabov (his nearest rivals) both drew. A win would put him a full point ahead, and drawing milking out just a draw against Radjabov (with white) will be enough to win. So, if it's a draw today, Aronian just needs to draw tomorrow (with white) to insure at least a shared of first. |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | kia0708: <time to congratulate the armenian with the tournament win then.> but Carlsen still has a chance to win it all (if he wins tomorrow while Aronian loses) |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | Penguincw: Aronian looks to win. He has a mate in 13 ending like this: click for larger view |

 | | Ezzy: If this is Gelfand's form, then it will be the most one sided World Championship Match in the history of chess. |
 |
| Jan-28-12 | | Penguincw: < kia0708: <time to congratulate the armenian with the tournament win then.> but Carlsen still has a chance to win it all (if he wins tomorrow while Aronian loses) > Let's see. If Aronian won today, and the top standings will be this: 1.Aronian 8.5
2.Carlsen 7.5
2.Radjabov 7.5
Pairings (that matter):
Van Wely-Carlsen 0-1
Aronian-Radjabov 0-1
Carlsen wins (which seems possible) but Aronian losing? 1.Aronian 8.5
1.Carlsen 8.5
1.Radjabov 8.5
Looks like the trophy is going to have to be split. |

Really? I could have sworn Navara would not have beaten Aronian with black in round 11. |
