They played competitive chess for 9 days straight. Some are happy with their result and want to wrap them up rather quick. Some played a rather bad tournament, and just want it to end asap and best forget about it. For both groups a quick draw seems to be appealing esp. if they are in the table's nowhereland, with no chance to win something.
So I can understand the motivation behind those final round quick draws. |

| | waustad: <refused>I understand the issue, these are people playing a board game for a living. However, many games I expected to be mere formalities were played until after time control. Could the Hort prize money plan have something to do with it? They only split half of the money in a tie but the rest is paid based on tie breaks. Maybe there are a few extra Euros at stake this time. In many open torunaments, if players have a guaranteed piece of 1st with a draw, it is over before they enter the room. |

He is the editor-in-chief of the Polish Chess Magazine "Mat" (Mate), "a grandmaster magazine for all". Bartel lives in Warsaw. For six years now, WGM Marta Przedziecka has been his girflriend. About his qualification for the 40th Sparkassen Chess Meeting in Dortmund he said: "It will be something special to me, to play such a strong tournament. Of course, I will be an underdog, but I hope I can show some good chess". Sergey Karjakin won the Blitz tournament collecting 15/18 ahead of Grischuk 14.5/18. |
