PhilFeeley: So Giri and Mamedyarov are out of it. Quite the tumble for them:

5th round:
Mamedyarov 2752 ½ - ½ FM Boruchovsky 2333

GM Giri 2717 0 - 1 GM Holzke 2508

PhilFeeley: <Tabanus> Interesting. I looked for him in the player directory and he wasn't listed. I don't know how he did this round against a GM.

Tabanus: <PhilFeeley> He lost, and has White next round vs the 2398 untitled fellow countryman Georgios Goumas. Unfortunately (?) the Directory lists only the most notable players.

twinlark: <soldal: After the fifth round Jones, Fressinet and Kuzubov are in the lead with 4.5 points.>

So is Jones, the quiet achiever. A few more positive games and he'll realise his short term ambition of cracking the top 100.

Strongest Force: Two of my favorite talk buddies are playing each other: Fab vs Raufy! When Rauf was 15 I started talking to him because I thought he was Nak. I talked to Fab because I remember him when he lived in nyc. They are playing the dragon which is Rauf's favorite. However Fab is showing some giant bear teeth. Hmm...giant bear vs dragon is a terrific fight.

Mar-25-12  Penguincw: It's worth checking out Bacrot-Popov.

A few moves ago, it was slightly "better".

Mar-25-12  Penguincw: Worth noting Korobov is temporarily in the lead with 5/6.

Strongest Force: Rauf is a good guy but he should be spanked for the way he has mis-treated his poor pawns. I know Nak would be drooling if he had fab's position.
Mar-25-12  frogbert: yeah, on move 49 there seems to be a small edge for white. after R5b7, i think Nc5 looks tempting - not sure what black should respond. there are pawns on both wings, though, and black's bishop might prove to provide some compensation for black.
Mar-25-12  frogbert: so, i clearly don't have a clue what's going on. caruana's game continued 50. Rd3 Bf8 51. Nf6+ Kg7 52. Rd7+ Be7 ...
Mar-25-12  frogbert: 53. Rxb7 Rxb7 54. Ne4 ...

i guess white's idea is to penetrate with the king via the white squares: Kc2-d3-c4 and so on. at the moment the black king is cut off due to white's rook in the f-file.

Mar-25-12  frogbert: or maybe rather to <e4> from d3 - after removing the knight. e5 seems hard to defend for black. i think white's chances are good here.
Mar-25-12  Penguincw: Currently, 5 players are in the lead with 5 points. :-\ They are Khismatullin, Fressinet, Naiditsch, Vachier-Lagrave and Korobov.

Strongest Force: Fab's handling of the endgame could be making Capa, Bobby and Akiba roll and scream in their graves; however, like I said before, Fab does not seem hungry in this tournament.
Mar-25-12  frogbert: strongest force, which engine are you using?

caruana is hesitating, not sure if he wants to go for it or not.
