Thanh Phan: A nice article found at twitter thanks to @chessqueen <Alexandra Kosteniuk> A short article about the World Rapid Chess Championship http://chess-news.ru/en/node/7768 (won by Stefanova, @Kosteniuk Silver, Koneru Bronze)

waustad: It looks like the blitz championship is starting too. I can see why it isn't on chessbomb like the rapids were. Blitz games very often mess up with the DGT boards.

HeMateMe: Nice to see Stefanova win a big tournament. I think her results were a bit pedestrian, over the last few years. Kosteniuk had a good event, too.

Open Defence: not a bad score from Humpy, nice to see Harika with a good score too

Honza Cervenka: <Wow did Stefanova get lucky in winning this tournament.>

So did I betting some chessbucks on her. On the other hand, I bet more of them on Lahno, and so I could have won even much more here.

Jun-04-12  MarkFinan: <Honza Cervenka> I was wandering who had their chess bucks on stefanova, well done, you got some good odds there!

And Natalia Pogonina faired really poor, I expected a higher finish..

I had some chessbooks on Krush!!

Honza Cervenka: I bet only 10 on her, and I was the first who did it with odds fourty something to one. The final odds was a bit worse in comparison to that but still I won nearly 300.:-)

waustad: <MarkFinan>Pogonina was rated 24th out of 50 and scored 5.5/11. How is this a surprize? We all find her commentary delightful, but she's a 2450ish player who is also a new mom, which tends to pull women's ratings down for a while. As she mentioned once during the WCC match, she's spending a lot time on block towers now.

waustad: <nice to see Harika with a good score too> I'd agree except that they knocked Cramling out of contention. After a great first day, she just couldn't maintain that level. Of course in a Swiss, success just keeps making the competition tougher. Against Indian players she was 0/2 but against the rest of the field she was +4.

chessgames.com: We have all of the games in place now; thanks for your patience. We'll be putting up the blitz event shortly.
Jun-05-12  MarkFinan: <Wausted> I never said It was a surprise, I just said I expected her to do better! And maybe If she has all that going on In her life then she shouldn't be entering these competetions... Or maybe It's her charming manager's Influence??

The same guy who once Insulted <JFQ> for daring to have an opinion and wasn't rated 2500+ like NP !!

And I didn't find her recent commentary too "Delightful" either, I found It a bit patronising, aloof, with an "I know far more than you guys so listen to me" attitude! I found Shahade a lot more warm and friendly, and down to earth....

But thats just my opinion.

And so what If she was rated 24th out of 50, remind me again what Miss Stepanova's rating was out of 50 before the tourney began?

Not that much better, going by bookies odds, and I don't just mean at CG's chessbookie's.. Even though they get their odds from the official sites!

waustad: Since you ask, Stefanova was rated 8th at the beginning of the tournament. http://chess-results.com/tnr73529.a...

chessgames.com: It turns out that the blitz games are apparently not available, at least not yet. We'll create a page if we can get at least some of the games, but in any case congratulations to Valentina Gunina for going a perfect 13-0.
Nov-21-12  Eric Farley: It's interesting to note that Stefanova -- a d4 player - defeated Humpy, Kosteniuk, Lahno, and Muzyshuk -- all e4 players. This pattern emerges constantly in other tournaments. Do we have a message here?
Nov-21-12  Bengambit: Help!! I need to know how much time is on the clocks during a rapid chess game, and how much time is allowed to make each move. I am currently playing rapid games at 15 minutes until the time expires. I want to speed up my play a bit more, and improve my position, pace of play, and learn to strike more quicker from the first 3 minutes. And we play for that dollar bill too.
