 | | HeMateMe: Natalie P. in 2nd place, off to a good start. |
 |
Jun-21-12
 | | wordfunph: our sentimental fave --- Natalia Pogonina!
my 1,000 chessbucks for Natalia. |
 |
| Jun-21-12 | | hellopolgar: So the best Russian female players on in the GP and had to miss this? |
 |
Jun-21-12
 | | Kinghunt: My impression is that this events is aimed at the second tier top players (no offence meant, as that is in and of itself an incredible achievement). My impression is that this event is a great stepping stone for making it into that elite group - but if you're already there, no need to compete here anymore. If you look at the men's division, for example, despite the name of "Russian Chess Championship Higher League," the top seeds are ranked 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, and 13th in Russia, and there's no big simultaneous men's event going on. The very top players just don't participate in this kind of event, Grand Prix or no Grand Prix. |

 | | HeMateMe: She's a Manina, she's a MANINA, oh, yeah.....<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miwF...> |
 |
Jun-22-12
 | | Kinghunt: Just a clarification on my last post... According to http://whychess.org/en/node/2060, this event is a qualifier to the Russian Women's Superfinal. The superfinal is a 10 player event, and the top 5 finishers here qualify for it. They change the format around a bit from year to year, but I believe the top finishers at last year's superfinal and the top rated Russian females round out the rest of the field. Thus, this event is for players who don't qualify by either of the above (and I would imagine the majority of the Russian players in Kazan do, by one or the other). |
 |
Jun-22-12
 | | Natalia Pogonina: Yes, the rules keep changing from year to year, but normally people who have already qualified for the Superfinal don't participate. That's why I haven't been playing in the Top League since 2007. My bad last year... :) |
 |
Jun-22-12
 | | Kinghunt: You were so close to an automatic requalification, just a half a point shy... But it seems that you didn't take that loss too hard and are looking to get back with a vengeance! |
 |
Jun-22-12
 | | parmetd: Go Natalia Go! |
 |
Jun-24-12
 | | HeMateMe: Looks like Natalie is well on her way to a trip to the closed Russian Championships. I guess the other top russian players are in that tournament that includes Kosteniuk and the Kointseva sisters, and they have already qualified. |
 |
Jun-24-12
 | | Natalia Pogonina: @HeMateMe The sisters will be invited by rating. Alexandra doesn't have a spot in the Superfinal unless the RCF will make up a new rule. The way things are supposed to be, Kosintsevas will qualify by rating; Gunina, Galliamova and Charochkina for winning medals in 2011, and 5 more players - for their performance at the Top League. |

Jun-25-12
 | | Wild Bill: Congratulations, Natalia Andreevna! Now go get 'em in Moscow! |
 |
Jun-25-12
 | | Open Defence: <Wild Bill> you old avtaar is available now I think |
 |
Jun-25-12
 | | Wild Bill: Why, thank you, <Defi>. I've grown accustomed to Darth Vader, however. He represents my dark side so well. A good chess player should always be in touch with his dark side. |
 |
| Jun-25-12 | | goommba88: Natalia,
How does it feel to be the hottest chessplayer on the planet!? |
 |
Jun-25-12
 | | Sneaky: How many rounds left? |
 |
Jun-25-12
 | | Kinghunt: Two rounds to go, and Natalia edges up to equal first! |

Jun-25-12
 | | twinlark: Wonder why Goryachkina's not playing? |
 |
Jun-25-12
 | | twinlark: Google translate is a laugh sometimes.
Using it to translate the official webpage, Ekaterina Ubiennykh is translated as "Murdered Catherine". Olga Girya becomes "Olga Kettlebell", Evgenija Ovod becomes "Eugene Gadfly" and Daniil Dubov becomes "Daniel Oaks"...I actually looked up "Oaks" before I understood it was Dubov. |
 |
Jun-25-12
 | | HeMateMe: That would make them the second worst in linguistics--right behind ChessBase. |
 |
Jun-26-12
 | | Kinghunt: Natalia secures an invitation to the Superfinal with one round to go! In the last round, the pressure is off and she's just playing for glory. |
 |
Jun-26-12
 | | HeMateMe: As always, the Russian finals are an orgy of talent. I guess the USA is number two. |
 |
Jun-27-12
 | | Natalia Pogonina: Thanks for the support, guys! +5 =6 -0 is not bad, although before the tournament I expected this result to be enough for gold, not silver! :D |
 |
Jun-27-12
 | | parmetd: Congrats Natalia! And wow yea who would have thought +5Kh8 was going to be 2nd! |
