 | | HeMateMe: Right now, Chuk is on top of Chuk. That is, V. Chuk is just a point ahead of A. Chuk. He'll have to shuck the Chuk, if he's to win and be top Chuk. She hopes for an upset and turn V. Chuk into Ground Chuck. |

 | | achieve: In this position White to play his <12th> move, a 2200 player has a knock-out blow for a sub-15-move win against a GM (Antal): click for larger viewWhite to play and win
Playing White is Dutchman Aran Kohler, in the currently contested A Group of the Swiss format of this ACP Golden Classic. But, he missed out on no doubt immortality (Kohler played Qxh5), and went on to hold the GM to a respectable draw. Find the winning move! |

 | | Shams: <achieve> 1.Bf6!! I haven't engine-checked but pleez tell me I'm right. Black is tripping over himself on the kingside. Chess is so much a matter of confidence-- given that position against a 1600 player, Kohler would certainly have looked more at all such moves. |

 | | achieve: <Shams> You win the cake! - largest part at least ;) <Midas Touch: Bh6 ...> Good idea, but after f6 or even f5 Black seems OK. The trick here is to cement that F7 pawn, immobilize it, and then the threat over the b1-h7 diagonal can not be solved. More or less. There are lines where Black is just a piece behind, but the position is a mess. |

 | | waustad: Giri won again in the Dutch Champs. 5.5/6 with one more round to go. |
 |
Jul-20-12
 | | achieve: Congrats to Giri, 3rd time Dutch champion, but I can't shake the feeling that his opponents really play below their potential. More likely is that I am mistaken.
Chess at the top is about punishing mistakes, and Giri did just that this week. |

 | | achieve: Ivanchuk - Sasikiran is mightily tense now at move 35. Chuky up a pawn/2, but down a nagging exchange: RR v RBN |

 | | waustad: Going into the final round Chuky is +3, Kamsky is +2 and Anna M and Sutovsky are +1. Chuky and Anna play in the final round. Kamsky plays Jobova. |

Indeed one of many tactical (and positional) features. |

 | | brankat: A very fine performance by Ivanchuk. A good showing for Kamsky, too. And, certainly for Anna. Twelve decisive games out of 21. |

 | | Marmot PFL: Top bad it wasn't rated. offhand I think Ivanchuk would move up to #6 and Kamsky to #11 (maybe these are too high but that's my guess). |

Jul-23-12
 | | HeMateMe: Why isn't this tournament rated? |
 |
| Jul-23-12 | | SimonWebbsTiger: @<HMM>
It wasn't rated because of its non-standard nature! i.e. Long gone are the days of 150/40 with adjournments, so it was just a bit of fun with the old format. I bet Jobava is happy it wasn't rated too. :) |
