  Pirandus: Hello:
Ipatov is a turkish player with a russian name? He is a Russian living in Turkey?

OBIT: Heh, Ipatov has also played the three players with 8.5, so he will be paired with someone with 8. Motivation will be on his side - he'll have a lot more to gain from a victory than his opponent.

twinlark: Ipatov is a Ukrainian who moved to Spain before settling in Turkey.
Aug-15-12  Troller: Top pairings in final round:

Ding-Rapport
Ipatov-Shimanov
Zherebukh-Ter-Sahakian

kellmano: Ipatov drew, but so did Rapport and Liren. I believe that makes Ipatov WJC. First time I've ever heard of him, but he has played some nice chess this tounament
Aug-15-12  joeyj: Round-13

Ding-Rapport : ½-½
Ipatov-Shimanov : ½-½

kellmano: Hold on a minute. One of Rapport's games is missing.
Aug-15-12  joeyj: Ipatov & Rapport tied for 1st with 10/13 points

Tie-break points will decide the Gold medalist!

Aug-15-12  joeyj: Regulations:

7.3 Tie-breaks: after eliminating the lowest rated opponent, the sum of the player’s opponent ratings. The highest total wins. If still tied, elimination of the rating of the next lowest rated opponent(s) until a decision is possible.

waustad: As I suggested a bit earlier, Rapport and Grandelius both were hurt in the final ordering by tiebreaks. 4th was a good result for Grandelius, who tied with 9.5 points with Ding Liren. He picks up 14.8 ELO. Rapport picks up 16.3 ELO and Ipatov gets the title.
Aug-15-12  MarkFinan: Whens the tie break, Iv'e got chessbucks on Rapport to win this? I downloaded all his games from this database the other day too, and I'm really Impressed with him, especially one game In particular he played In this tourney against Shimanov.. I see others were Impressed with that game too..

Good luck to the kid.

Aug-15-12  joeyj: Alexander Ipatov is World Junior Chess Champion
Aug 15, 2012

Alexander Ipatov won the World Junior Chess Championship in Athens, Greece. Ipatov collected 10,0/13 to claim first place.

Second place is for GM Rapport who scored the same points, but has worse tiebreak.

Aug-15-12  MarkFinan: Never!!! Thats a whole lot of chessbucks I nearly won, I'd be at the top of the summer standings now, I had 75-1 on him winning!!

Oh well, I'll be keeping an eye on him anyway and looking out for any future tourney results, and he can be proud of himself for his performances In the WJCC..

Aug-15-12  qqdos: <joeyj> having looked at the list of previous World Junior Champions (and some very distinguished names), how about a tournament for those past prodigies!? It might even tempt Garry out of retirement. My money would be on Aronian, but Anand, GK and some of the young guns might love the chance to give their seniors a battering.
Aug-15-12  joeyj: That would be great <qqdos>, some of the former WJCC the legends i.e. Anatoly Karpov('69), Alexander Beliavsky('73), Artur Yusupov('77), Yasser Seirawan('79), Kasparov('80), Andrei Sokolov('82) who are still playing lately be it rated or just friendly games + of course the middle aged and active players headed by WC Anand('87) and the current #2 World rated Aronian('02)+ the young stars would be an interesting cast !

brankat: A very nice score by the 17 year old Aleksandar Indjic. Shared the 5th place, with more wins than anyone else, and no Draws. 9/13...+9 -4 =0 !

Congratulations Aleksandar!

  twinlark:

Congratulations to GM Ipatov for winning this tough tourney ahead of some extremely tough competition and becoming the 2012 World Junior Champion. Again this competition went down to the wire.

Pirandus: Where and how can I see the ELO-changements?
Merde, alors.

Aug-17-12  joeyj: The more accurate FIDE rtg for each WJCC2012 player could be found hereat: (Just click the name of the player you want to know)

http://chess-results.com/tnr76324.a...

i.e. for Ipatov it's +24.4 instead of 24.
for Rapport it's +16.3 instead of 16.
for Zherebukh it's -6.6 instead of -7.

Decimal points matters more often in determining Live rating and in computing/combining results of 2 or more tournaments in a rating period before finally rounding it off for the final FIDE rating for the period.
