Oct-18-12  messachess: This should be interesting: Naka playing a little shaky lately and Giri, upcoming and a dangerous opponent. The rest: cannon fodder unless I am proved wrong.
Oct-18-12  fisayo123: Giri should win this.
Oct-18-12  KKDEREK: Well, Giri is not exactly on a hot streak..Somebody knows the full line-up?
Oct-18-12  francis2012: <KKDEREK: Well, Giri is not exactly on a hot streak..Somebody knows the full line-up?> This four player double round-robin features Hikaru Nakamura, Anish Giri, Sergei Tiviakov and Hou Yifan. :)

waustad: I don't speak Dutch, but my guess is that "21 oktober 2012 1e ronde" for the "Vierkamp" means that the 4 player premier section doesn't start until the 21st. See: http://www.univechess.nl/info/infor...

brankat: <wausted> Oct-21 is the correct date.
Oct-19-12  wallytherhino: Nakamura:
+2 -1 =6 Giri
+2 -0 =0 Tiviakov
+1 -0 =0 Yifan

Giri:
+1 -2 =6 Nakamura
+1 -0 =4 Tiviakov
+0 -0 =0 Yifan

My Prediction is that Nakamura wins this tournament with some wins he has to grind out, while drawing the rest of this games. Considering these top players have very little exposure to each other they should have more feeling draws.

Nakamura:
He has a good variety of openings because in last 10 games he has played

D73 Neo-Grunfeld, 5.Nf3
D00 Queen's Pawn Game
E90 King's Indian
C11 French
C00 French Defense
A23 English, Bremen System, Keres Variation
A22 English
A85 Dutch, with c4 & Nc3
A07 King's Indian Attack
B30 Sicilian
E67 King's Indian, Fianchetto

Neo-Grunfeld, 5.Nf3 (D73)
1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 g6 3 g3 d5 4 Bg2 Bg7 5 Nf3

This is a dynamic opening which he played against Alejandro Ramirez-Alvarez. LINK: A Ramirez vs Nakamura, 2012

Oct-19-12  Rook e2: I had a draw in the first round.. That's a bit unfortunate because my opponent was about 250 points below me. He could have won however.

Is there some sort of open tournament running consecutively with the main event here?

That's right! There is an open tournament as well as two 'amature events'. Link to the open group (with Timman a.o.) http://www.univechess.nl/deelnemers... Link to Amature groups: http://www.univechess.nl/deelnemers... http://www.univechess.nl/deelnemers...

Oct-20-12  Whitehat1963: I predict zero wins for Hou, unfortunately.

brankat: Yifan Hou has been able to hold her own when playing against the boys. Also, she has been in a very good form of late.

In this field, I think, she should probably be able to score at least 50%.

Check It Out: Nakamura will be looking to make a killing here considering his recent results. Look for some blood and guts action mixed with some drawn out grinders.
Oct-21-12  ex0duz: Definitely cheering for Yifan.

I hope she can take a game, even if it's from a blunder. Winning a game against any of those guys would be something! She's not playing against just any boys, but they are all 2700+ right? Tiviakov has always been like a high 2600 or 2700~ to me. Kinda like Dreev or Malakhov in my mind, but i haven't followed either 3 that closely, but that's just my intuition over the years. I just know they are on another level from Yifan.. although i'm hoping i'm wrong.

Yifan Ga Yao!

Oct-21-12  Komsy: I'm not a premium member so i can't see the game. Can anybody post the notations or the pgn file. Thanks

Oct-21-12  Whitehat1963: In game one, Yifan Hou didn't look like she fell into any danger at all. But it didn't look like she provided much danger to Tiviakov either. Still, better for her to put up a bunch of draws against this level of competition than to to lose a bunch. We'll see.
Oct-21-12  MountainMatt: Interesting set-up, what with only 4 players and all. Strikes me as a sort of chess double date, with repeated partner swapping.
Oct-21-12  messachess: So, how do you all rank the young players? At top, of course, is Carlsen (or, the magass and the slurping fan-boys.)What about the next 10 or 15. Who has a chance to match the C.?
