Twenty experts, divided into two sections of ten, participated in the International Masters Tournament held in Kecskemet, Hungary from June 26 to July 12, 1927. Alexander Alekhine won the preliminary tournament A and Lajos Steiner won the preliminary tournament B. The four leaders in each section then engaged in an additional finals tournament (section A).
