I'm looking for his name to be in the next spelling bee championship.

Feb-02-13  torreAC: first to say second...

PhilFeeley: There are over 1600 participants! I expect there are several divisions. The first 100 in the list are over 2400.

The top 10 so far:

1 Nepomniachtchi Ian 2703 GM RUS
2 Inarkiev, Ernesto 2688 GM RUS
3 Potkin Vladimir 2665 GM Rus
4 Khismatullin, Denis 2652 GM RUS
5 Mamedov, Rauf 2651 GM AZE
6 Iturrizaga, Eduardo 2650 GM VEN
7 Khairullin, Ildar 2650 GM RUS
8 Gupta, Abhijeet 2637 GM IDN
9 Nyzhnyk, Illya 2637 GM UKR
10 Turov, Maxim 2630 GM

It'll be good to see Nyzhnyk back in action.

PhilFeeley: Nothing on Chessbomb yet. This should have started by now, but the official site doesn't even list pairing yet, sending you to Chess-reults.com for that.

BTW, there's a Vadim Karpov listed. A descendent perhaps, or is Karpov just a common Russian name, like Petrosian in Armenia?

PhilFeeley: Now I see that chess-results.com lists the starting time as 16:00, presumably local time. A couple of hours yet.

PhilFeeley: I see that neither Inarkiev nor Potkin are listed as first round competitors. Perhaps they've taken a bye?

...and of course you have to go through the Russian version of the page. If you try it in English, you get a blank page. LOL

Haha no wonder I'm in the bottom of the pile. Did he lose already ?

Feb-02-13  Jason Frost: A bit surprised Andreikin isn't playing, since he seems to play (and mostly win) all major tournaments in Russia. Though the prize fund is a bit small.

Feb-03-13  waustad: Karina S-H is playing the Evans today. What fun!
Feb-03-13  Ezzy: Nyzhnyk Illya 2637 v Nyudleev Dolgan 2372

Black only has to play 38...Qxd4 (A mystery why he didn't play it) and has all the winning chances, BUT played the horrible 38...Qe3??

Monday/Tuesday puzzle - What's the finish for Nyzhnyk?

Feb-03-13  Ezzy: Round 2 Moscow Open

Another gift point for Illya
Nyzhnyk

Nyzhnyk just played 32...Bxc1 which should all be equal after 33 Rxc1 - BUT White played the aweful 33 Qxc1?? leading to 33...f2+ 34 Kh1 (34 Kxg2 Qf3 mate) Qf3 and it's all over.

2 games, 2 horrible blunders by his opponent.
