|Mar-19-13|| ||Octavia: how many rds?|
|Mar-19-13|| ||fref: <Octavia>: Ten (10).|
|Mar-19-13|| ||waustad: Next year both Juan Bellon and Pia Cramling will be eligible. There won't be a U12 for Ana, but maybe they can make it a family outing.|
|Mar-20-13|| ||Harvestman: Nice to see Tseitlin doing well. The book "The Complete Vienna" by Tseitlin & Glaskov is one of my favourite chess books.|
|Mar-20-13|| ||HeMateMe: Hmm...I recognize a few names. Vasuikov, Abramovic, Yuri Balashov.|
No Timman, Karpov or Nunn? I'd like to see more of the stars of yesterday be involved in senior events. It matters not that their skills have slighlty declined. The drama is at the board.
Whatever happened to 1983 FIDE semifinalist Zoltan Ribli of Hungary? He must have given up chess fairly early, in life.
|Mar-21-13|| ||HeMateMe: What's wrong with Bulgaria? Anyway, there's no money in chess, for the most part, where ever you should find yourself. I would think they would like to play a few serious games, now and then.|
They were so good at this as younger men, I would miss the thrill of competition, if I had been a world class player. Karpov played in an elite GM tournament a couple of years ago, and got killed. They can't enter those kinds of tournaments anymore. Nothing wrong with a good seniors competition, now and then.
|Mar-21-13|| ||Beholder: I've played Anatoli I Shvedchikov twice last year and lost both games. He is quite good.|
|Mar-21-13|| ||waustad: If I recall correctly GM Ribli is playing in the Bundesliga. If that is the case, he may have a conflict.|
|Mar-22-13|| ||virginmind: Pretty good result for Dumitrascu, drawing the mighty Sveshnikov...|
|Mar-22-13|| ||Fusilli: What's the age threshold for "senior", here?|
|Mar-22-13|| ||Shams: <Fusilli> <Men can participate if they are 60 or over by January 1 of the year the tournament starts. For women the age requirement is 50 or over. The format of the tournament is 9 round Swiss system. |
The competition is mixed, but [there] are two titles: the overall winner gets the title "European Senior Chess Champion" and the highest ranked women the title "European Senior Women Chess Champion">
|Mar-26-13|| ||Tired Tim: Nunn is not 60 yet .... he has not played actively for many years|
|Mar-28-13|| ||whiteshark: This is the old guys wanting to get to bed early so as to be ready for the next morning round: |
