perfidious: <Dionysius1> The ignore function is, at times, of immense value--his posts in any of innumerable guises are pathetic and hate filled when he gets away from certain areas of chess about which he does know a good deal and occasionally contributes something of worth.
Premium Chessgames Member
Dionysius1: Ah yes, but knowing which times - there's the rub.
Premium Chessgames Member
Sokrates: <SimonWebbsTiger> All true, but I fail to see your point, sorry. Yes, big-shots appear in opens, right, but here, the difference in strenght leaves no suspense on the result.

But even so, you're right <achieve> that some interesting single games may happen, and yes, it's always a treat to see the supreme player show his supremacy.

Feb-22-15  Everett: <Feb-22-15
member kellmano: It's an incredibly strong event. Shame there is no live coverage, but only goes to show what we have come to expect in the chess world.>

Ten years ago there was practically nothing of the sort. Not just sour, but spoiled, grapes.

Feb-22-15  gokusano: It is also a treat to see a longshot upstages a higher rank player especially if the game is a wild tactical one. I usually frequent a chess plaza during college days and it makes my day seeing a lesser known player giving a master some serious beating.
Feb-23-15  jakaiden: So and Short didn't even play each other?
Feb-23-15  achieve: Short lost his second game to Wells, after which he was playing catchup.

A So Short game would have been So-So anyway, and too Short at that.

Sokrates: <achieve> LOL - you're in a splendid mood today, huh?
Feb-23-15  Conrad93: Why has Wesley So not gained rating points?

Is the opposition that weak?

Feb-23-15  achieve: <sokrates> My moods change so I try and post my positive and quasi funny stuff early in the morning.

Good to see you around, btw, you're in many ways a breath of fresh air, and i am just glad we met and can talk.

<moronovich>, a good friend of mine, is also from Denmark, and we get along very well.

Don't tell me that is entirely coincidental! ;)

Premium Chessgames Member
Sokrates: <achieve> I have noted <moronovich> too. By no means coincidental, and I shall immediately echo your kind words - thank you!

HeMateMe: I'm thinking Nige can drink So UNDER the table. Also, if Nigel gets a few pops in him, might we hear some acoustic Stairway to Heaven? Perhaps only in the hotel room...
Premium Chessgames Member
Sally Simpson: Too many chord changes for Nigel in 'Stairway to Heaven' and too many verses for Wesley to remember. ;)

I reckon these two could do a good three chorder version of 'From a Jack to a King'.

Maybe Wesley and Nigel will treat us to that when Wesley lifts the W.C. title.

Second act will be Carlsen singing 'It's All Over Now.'

Pic of me banging out my three chords when I should have been giving a demo.

I went all the way to Dundee with guitar and demo board. Left my demo board on a bus!

Had to borrow a demo board from the Chess Scotland Bookstall.

Ahh the good old days.

Wonder if Wesley was named after that wee lad in Star Trek?

Premium Chessgames Member
HeMateMe: Actually I was thinking of another limey on vocals, not Wesley So.

What happened to your avatar, Sally? Drink it up in he pubs?

Premium Chessgames Member
Sally Simpson: I let the sub slip.

Spending far too much time bickering with people on here. Limit to posting one day a month. Today is the day.

By the way, MCO 9 is bust.

It includes a picture of my new local.

See you in March.

cro777: <The famous drinking tournament of Bunratty. Longer time controls?>

Simon Williams: "Maybe we should do re-run of Bunratty? A Whisky and Guinness drink every 10 moves? Half an hour game."

whiteshark: Nice picturesque tournament report by Alina L'Ami:
Mar-08-15  Wavy: <MarkFinan: What's Wes So playing this event for? It's full of has beens and never were's. I thought he'd swam safely through the opens seas to the safety of the goldfish bowl, now someone's taken him down to the paddling pool!>

What I read in Bunratty website is that Wesley just fulfilled his promise long ago to join this tournament. He was invited a few years ago when he was still a nobody.

tpstar: <Wesley's biggest supporter, Lotis, who has a magic wand, making everyone feel wonderful around her.> Cha!

<Alina L'Ami> Agree - beautiful pictures.

HeMateMe: Look at the size of these fish portions--you never get that in the USA.

Mar-25-15  Raisin Death Ray: I guess Bunratty is better than Butranny! :)

Tabanus: Since we have the Bunratty Masters (2012), Bunratty Masters (2013), Bunratty Masters (2014), Bunratty Masters (2016), and Bunratty Classic (2015), I asked the name of this event changed to Bunratty Masters (2015). This brilliant idea occured to me yesterday.

You've never been to <Ye Olde Fish & Chips> in Woonsocket RI then:

zanzibar: <Tab> you do realize that your last post is equally off-topic?

Shall we continue this do-si-do with another round?
