Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
World Blitz Championship (Women) (2018)

The 2018 King Salman FIDE Women's World Blitz Championship was a 17-round Swiss open taking place in St. Petersburg, Russia from 29-30 December. The prize fund was $150,000, with $40,000 for 1st place. Time control: 3 minutes per player for all the moves, with a 2-second increment per move from move 1. Monetary prizes to be shared equally among tied players. If there was a tie for 1st place, the top 2 players would play a playoff match. This match would include 2 games played with a time control of 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment after each move, with a drawing of lots to decide which player would start with White. If the score was still level, the players would play a sudden death Armageddon game. (1) No playoff was necessary, since Kateryna Alexandrovna Lagno won clear first with 13.5/17.

sonia91: Just like her childhood friend Sergey Karjakin two years ago, after finishing as runner-up in the classical world championship, Kateryna Alexandrovna Lahno wins the blitz championship.

Sarasadat Khademalsharieh manages to win the silver medal both in the King Salman Rapid World Championship (Women) (2018) and the blitz championship, great performance by her!

Tingjie Lei takes the bronze medal, after winnnig the silver in the women's rapid championhip last year.
