Capablanca Memorial (Elite) (2008)

The 43rd Capablanca Memorial was a 10-player round robin held from 8-17 May 2008 in Hotel Neptuno-Tritón, Havana, Cuba. Games started at 3 pm. Rest day: May 11. Time controls: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 30 more minutes to finish the game, having 30 seconds added per move from the start. Local hero Leinier Dominguez Perez won the event for the second time with 6/10. The winner of the European Individual Championship (2008) Sergei Tiviakov played nine draws and swam in the Caribbean Sea. He also took pictures for ChessBase.

The Open swiss tournament was won on tiebreak by IM Aryam Abreu Delgado ahead of Aramis Alvarez Pedraza, both with 7.5/10. Abreu took his final GM norm.
