I first came across this opening idea from a recent article by GM Andrew Soltis in Chess Life on the potential usefulness of a seldom seen (let alone played) variation from the early 20th century. The purpose of this collection is to assemble games played according to the gambit/counterattack system Marshall devised for play in either the French or the Sicilian. Though the position arose in both openings well before Marshall got to it, he was the first to systematically apply it and develop it into a useful weapon that remains a dubious and unexamined opening variation for potential use.
