<Charles W Blake> may have been the first Canadian to win the tournament, depending on how you count Nicholas MacLeod (a Canadian by birth who had moved to the United States). Winnipeg had long been represented at the Western Championship, usually by Blake and Magnus Smith, and the province was a full member of the Association.

An interesting story was the appearance of 14-year-old <Dare D. Barkuloo.
