The great genius ... PAUL MORPHY!!!
Compiled by LIFE Master AJ

<< Friday; March 7th, 2014. <<<>>> >>

Some of the best chess ever played, blazed by perhaps chess's greatest pioneer - and one of the greatest chess minds of all time.

I think that Paul Morphy was simply one of the greatest chess players that ever lived ... and he is one of my favorites. Certainly the gap that separated Morphy from the rest of his generation was very large.

Here is my web page dedicated to the great Paul Morphy ... at the bottom are links to about 10 games that I have thoroughly annotated. http://www.angelfire.com/games4/lif... (Three stars/asterisks next to the game indicates that I have a web page on this game, you can generally find the link in the kibitzing section.)

Without question ... in my mind ... Paul Morphy was easily one of the greatest players of all time. His genius is hard to measure, and he was a natural in open positions. And the gap ... between him and the rest of his generation ... was also greater than any other great player who ever lived.
