Italiano Job c3s Mobbed Fredthebear
Compiled by fredthebear

Site under construction.

My collections tend to eventually get to the intended topic after some other opening acts do their thing. At some point, this will emphasize the Classical variation and the Greco Gambit.

The "Quiet Game" is woefully misnamed, unless it refers to the mafia shake down behind the scenes! C54 is a delightful romp for hearty chess gladiators. It's roots go back to the days of old when knights were bold and toilets weren't invented. Emperor Nero was as cruel and wicked as it comes, even murdering his own brother and mother. So beware! And put that cork back in the bottle!

"Gioacchino Greco (1600-1634) was born into poverty, but in his short life became one of the strongest players of the seventeenth century. Playing in his native Italy, and then traveling to France, England, and Spain, he took on all comers and was honored at the court of Phillip IV. He wrote many manuscripts, dedicated to his various patrons, that were translated into English, French, Dutch, German, and Danish." -- David MacEnulty, p. 149 of The Chess Kids's Book of Checkmate.

Thank you waddayaplay, konjiki.

* ECO code C50 is no longer the focus in here!! This collection originally contained all types of Italian games but has since easily outgrew itself. Many games have been sorted into more specific types of Italian game collections in other folders. Now the main focus in this collection is the move 4.c3 followed by d4. World champions still give these lines a go; they're still quite potent against your human opponents.

The other types of opening starts near the top will be allowed to remain for some interesting variety as file space is no longer a problem. Obviously, I enjoy opening traps and zaps -- it's probably what hooked me on chess as a youngster, along with solving Reinfeld's checkmate problems! (Nowadays, the endgame is where I "put hay in the barn.")
