technical draw: Thanks <MAJ> I can cancel the appointment with my Optometrist now.
Dec-11-08  The beginner: <Davron>

If you really want to improve, I would recomend buing a few books, and some software to help you. Also you can read on the internet for example these articles are good.

http://www.jeremysilman.com/chess_t...

Chess is not only calculation, and lot of it is pattern recognition, creativity, and imagination.

A good program for tactics ( pattern recognition )would be Chess tactics for beginners

http://www.chesscentral.com/softwar...

Once you can see patterns it will be easyer for you to spot mistakes by you or your openent.

You will also be able to see if any given position might be optainable. That is a huge part of chess, not only to see how the pieces are placed now, but being able to imagine if they where placed diferently, and could you reach your imaginated position someway.

crawfb5: I found the 17 capture game, but not any of the 15 capture ones. It doesn't help to correctly interpret the clue if you can't find the game....sigh. :-)
Dec-11-08  biglo: What's the Dentist's Number? two thirty?

technical draw: I think I have the last 2 letters but I quit this one. Can't figure it out. The last 2 letters are probably w and i....

cu8sfan: Clue 8 is unfair for non-nativ English speakers... /-:
Dec-11-08  percyblakeney: Loudness levels can be measured in phons, that's H. Slugs have small shells, that's S. Aces sometimes lose, that's L. Dentist's number could be anything from 1-32 but it should be an I or E there. Layers, hmm. Doesn't make much sense anyway...
Dec-11-08  percyblakeney: Layers could be hens. HSNLI? HSNLE?

kellmano: Aces could be 'pips'. That leaves the last two as 'pips' and 'twothirty'. I quite like Hens as well, so it's:

soemthing something hens pips twothirty.

That should help :-)

Dec-11-08  percyblakeney: It's something between HSNLE and ORWPO. Maybe.

OhioChessFan: I lean toward vOlume for the first. Not sure on the second. Slugs works but the s is hard to deal with. heNs was my first thought for #3 and I see no reason to change. Aces are sometimes Ones. Dentist number is thIrtytwo.

OSNOI?

SwitchingQuylthulg: vOlume is one letter too many...

OSNOI is close to Viacheslav Osnos but that's a bad lead.

kellmano: To me it is not clear why you are all picking the second letter of the first word, the third of the third and so on.

Are the boxes emphasise somehow on our screens?

Dec-11-08

OhioChessFan: Hey, you have to make the clues work! 5 or 6 letters, it's all good. :)

Maybe Tacos have small shells
HTNOI?

Dec-11-08

OhioChessFan: Yes, they are circles while the rest of the letters are squares.

You are looking for the second letter of the first word.

First letter of the second word.
Third letter of the third word.
First letter of the fourth word.
Third letter of the fifth word.

Dec-11-08  percyblakeney: OK, at least phons and hens were right...

Robin01: If it helps, the five words I came up with were:
sones
crabs
hens
ones
thirtytwo

I do not know if these words are correct.

kellmano: How did you get thirtytwo? Tooth hurty surely?

Irrelevant really, given that the answer is a totally incomprehensible novocaine. How is that a number?

Dec-11-08
Premium Chessgames Member
Robin01: Perhaps the thirtytwo refers to either ECO code or number of moves in the game?
Dec-11-08  MarkusKann: The clue 8 is solved
Dec-11-08  MarkusKann: Dentist number = Novacaine??? What?
