I finally decided to create an account here. You guys seem to have a lot of interesting discussions, so I figured I could join. Well ... see you around! |

 | | technical draw: <visualogic> Welcome, you will find that most people here are very well edumacated. And some are very wealthy. I am, of course, the wealthiest of all but lately with all the market problems and banking mess I'm a little short on liquid. If you happen to have a spare $20 you're not using send it my way. Thanks. (also vote for me for funniest kibitzer). TD.... |

 | | HeMateMe: visilogic can go to TD's forum to fill out his registration form. Just a few simple questions--where do you live, where do you keep your valuables, and when are you home--just standard stuff. |
 |
| Sep-08-10 | | visualogic: Haha, you guys are awesome! Thank you for the hearty welcome. Yeah, I've noticed that most people here seem really smart. I doubt that I'll have much to contribute to the discussions---especially on game-analyses---but I really enjoy following the conversations. I also write some things which I didn't know about before. So -- thanks, and keep it up! |

| Sep-08-10 | | Jim Bartle: "I also write some things which I didn't know about before." That`s our motto here! Usually without the "before," though. |

| Sep-08-10 | | I play the Fred: <I finally decided to create an account here. You guys seem to have a lot of interesting discussions, so I figured I could join.> In a similar vein, I finally coughed up the dough for Premium Membership. Since I suck at self-promotion, this may be the one and only time I invite others to contribute to my forum, Fred's Global Chess ThinkTank. It exists to discuss possible ways to improve the spectator experience of professional chess without resorting to extreme measures. I started the forum because I hated to see good ideas evaporate, as has happened on many other threads. |

I couldn't find the source for this puzzle, but it's still very nice. Clearly White is winning with his extra rook, but how can he finish Black off immediately? |
 |
| Sep-08-10 | | MaxxLange: Well. I am back from the State Championships! WORST TOURNAMENT EVER. I scored...poorly. Here is a hall of shame position from Round 1. White (me) to play and lose, on move 59: click for larger view |

<<Since I suck at self-promotion,...>> You need TD's correspondence course: 'Self Promotion for Dummies' Only $20 (of course if you don't want to pay please don't resort to extreme measures) |
 |
| Sep-08-10 | | MaxxLange: no solvers? OK!
ANY bishop move loses. The White Bishop is on the correct square. The King will stop the e-pawn, and also "body check" the adverse King The Bishop will stop the b-pawn and King
I got it the wrong way around: I wanted to use my King to block the b-pawn. That loses. |

 | | HeMateMe: Has anyone seen "Stones in Exile?" Its a 2 hour rockumentary about the Stones in the early 70s and the making of <Exile on Main Street>. Apparently there was footage shot for this sort of project, in the early 70s, and it got shelved. Jagger and Richards decided to revive the project. It got limited theater release a few months ago; I rented a copy today. |
 |
| Sep-09-10 | | MaxxLange: that sounds great! |

 | | Travis Bickle: <HeMateMe> I want to see that! Did you ever see The Stones film 25x5? My girlfriend had it on VHS, it was excellent! http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/194... |
 |
Sep-09-10
 | | WannaBe: what is vhs? |
 |
Sep-09-10
 | | HeMateMe: I think I did see the 25x5 program when it aired. I read chunks of the huge book they put out at the same time. Kinda fun when this old stuff sees the light of day. The Stones "Rock and Roll Circus" had never been released, till around 2000. I think Jagger thought their performance was subpar. Brian Jones looked pretty strung out. I think he was Jonesing... Thats the program that has <"The Dirty Mac" band>--John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell playing Lennon's "Yer Blues." Also released years after it was filmed, "Festival Express", a train ride through Canada with Janis Joplin, the Greatful Dead and a very young Buddy Guy playing gigs at cities along the way. The <bar car> was ALWAYS occupied during this train ride. |
